I know, I know. ANOTHER Halo thread... but i need some help!

So I'm looking into getting some Halos for my headlights and I found the LED ones on retrofit source...

I want the full circle look and brightness of LED halos but I don't like how they are yellow when off.

1.) is there any that are not yellow when off for a first gen FX?

2.) what size (mm) would I need if I do end up ordering the ones on retrofit source

3.) how hard is the install?

Also, do you think these "R8" strips are a good idea too? (

Thanks!

The sizes you need are 80mm and 90mm. As far as the yellow goes I want to try and paint the ring just enough to cover the yellow but not block the light output.

The problem is that the yellow is a coating there to make the light white. Painting over them enough to make them not yellow is going to reduce light output somewhat. It sort of defeats the purpose of the xB rings which is that they are so bright. All white LED's are yellow, it's a phosphorous coating that makes the light white. Without it, the lights are amber. If you look at LED interior lights or bulbs of any kind, they're all yellow. The rings just have a ton of LED's crammed on there so it's really, really yellow.

The R8 strips look bad; I've seen them in person. There's no finish to them, so it looks tacky, like a big piece of tape with some LED's glued to it. I've not seen a single install of those where it looked good. Plus there is a big space between each LED, it looks home made once installed. Hard to explain.

there's a seller on ebay that has led rings for the fx with lexan ring covers, gives it the bmw angle eye look and looks much better/more finished than the rings with just raw leds, but there very expensive... from what I remember they were over $150, closer to $200 I think...

another big problem I had with them is the rings are a bit thick and they press against the headlight lens when assembled correctly... cost me a set of headlight lenses finding that out the hard way :( made spider cracks in the lens at the pressure point where it touched.. solution was to replace the lenses and space the bezel back slightly with washers so it wouldn't contact the lenses...

These are Umnitza rings, very common amongst the BMW guys. Problem is they use a much larger diameter ring, so not many applications for us. I saw somewhere on one of the BMW forums that 180 Customs came out with their own rings which look exactly like these. Since they're on the forums, maybe contact them.

I might just say fuck it and get the yellows. They are cheap and do what I want. It'll only look weird when they aren't on. How hard is the application/wiring of them?

Stay away from those led strips dave. Or ill fly out to Ohio and take em off myself

yeah, those are them... I bought them as listed for fx application, the ring sizes were ok, the thickness was the only real problem but they wind up looking way more factory than the ones with just raw leds

actually now that I look at the picture again, I think the ones I got had lines on the rings which hide the leds even more than the ones you have pictured there. they were def umnitza though now that you mention it, pretty hard to forget a name like that :)

How much did you pay?

I just called umnitza and I think they are what ill end up going with. You cannot see the yellow as they are in a clear housing with chrome backing for ultimate output. $189 is more than I wanted to spend but I think it's worth it. What do you guys think?

Even though they're yellow, I would go with the Morimotos. I have Marus' Angel Eyes and I went with those specifically because they stacked more LEDs on the ring than anyone else at the time. I really didn't like the ones where it was clear that there were gaps between LEDs. I've seen the Morimotos in action and the LEDs are so small that when they're on, you can't tell that it's not just a single ring of light. My $.02
