Not sure which category this belongs in.

I have a GTSpec strut bar that I recently installed in my 06 FX35, and the mounts seem to be contacting the hood. I can see indentations in the foam, and i can feel the hood is tight when closed. Anyone with this bar have the same issue?

I will try to figure out how to get pictures into this post

Thanks,
Tom

Seems the left side hits the hood more on top of one of the clips so I removed the clip hoping that would help, but It seems that the curve of the clip is where the force is applied.

Thanks Silver,
The black metal rings? I removed those before installing the strut bar.

I will put up some pictures, Looks like I have to post them online and then link from here.

That's very odd. Seems like everything is mounted just fine. My guess is the hood liner. Is it aftermarket or has someone adjusted it? In the pictures, it almost looks like its backwards or inverted.

It seems the passenger side slightly raises the hood so there is a tiny bit bigger opening. Also I don't like that there is tension on the hood. I'm afraid hitting a bump hard or something will cause the hood to bend. Do you feel that the hood is really tight?

Supposedly no accidents, I got it used (30k miles), but with clean history, and no apparent repairs. not 100% sure of course.

I would remove the liner, or make a cut, but it seems its better to have the liner between the 2 metal parts.

By the looks of the indentation it seems to be the same wall thickness as the brace. Did you buy it new? GTSpec is really good with their warranty. I am assuming this was not part of the group buy that just happened? I did't see your name on the list.

Yea I found the group buy late, but got a pm that a local dealer had some so I ordered from them. They contacted GTspec on it, so I'm working both angles. Just wanting to see if anyone else has seen the same issue. If aero has the same indentations, I might be able to remove, and re mount it, and get it a little more toward the drivers side and get rid of the hood tweak.

Also if others have the same indentations, and i can get the hood to be completely straight, I can probably feel more safe that the tightness wont cause any problems later.

Just thinking if there isn't something wrong with the stb some ideas I had for making it work.

1. Remove the strut bar, and re install with the bar further toward the passenger side. bolt down the passenger side first. this might change the impact a tiny bit and would make it all line up better.

2. Place some type of shim toward the back of the strut bar (closer to passenger compartment) in order to bring the front side of it lower.

3. Dremel some material off of the strut mount bar front side to make it a bit lower.

4. I was recommended that I may be able to put some small washers at the hood mount location and give the area a bit more clearance.

Hey Silver is your FX the straight silver or the sand silver?

I spoke with GTspec and they are going to send out a replacement end piece to see if that corrects the issue. If any more of you have these bars and can let me know if you have any indentations or similar contact.

Been driving with mine all day, opened the hood and doesn't seem like it's making any contact with the hood on mine, but will double check in the morning.

This reminds me of the good ol' Stillen days. I think my hood is still a little bent from that one. =P

did you by any change repainted the car or hood or brace itself ?? i drove with mine for quite some time without issues. repainted the car and the strut brackets and now had issues with hitting the hood as well. grinded some of the brackets and are at the paintshop right now. hope it helped.....
