if you press any of the buttons and they blink rapidly, this means that the button is not programed.

Most new Garage openers now use changing codes. This means that you cannot program your car with another Remote. You need to program it with the Garage Opener itself.

There is a small button on the unit hanging from the ceiling of your garage. If you press it, it will start blinking. Once you do this, you have 30 seconds to press and hold one of the 3 buttons in your car to program the remote. Once the code is accepted, garage opener unit's light will turn on and off.

That's exactly what I had to do.

as i do garage door openers and doors for a living, i must say you guys know what your talking about lol

Hey Rob, what if I have an older opener that has toggle switches? When I bought my house, they did not leave the remote.

Yeah yeah, I know a lot of you are gonna say to replace it with a new one. hahahaha. Wish I could, but I have other priorities right now.

If you can let me know Rob, it would be great. If anyone else knows also let me know.

Thanks in advance.

I just bought this remote on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170378546142

so I'm thinking that I will have to program it with the remote?

anyone?

there are replacement remotes that are intelicode & include a reciever to wire into older systems... also nice if you want to add a keychain remote to control almost anything electrical with a little creativity

oh cool, good to know. Well if that remote I bought don't work I'll try the intelicode system your talking about. Thanks for the info Turbo.

It's a hassle getting home, getting out of the car, open up the house, go through the garage, open the door and then park it inside. hahahaha. Raining season (3 days per year) is coming so would be nice just to pull in without getting wet. hahahaha

if you did get that universal intellicode reciever with transmitter you can actually program the home link in the mirror to work with it too...

oh cool. SO if the control that I bought with the toggles works with the opener, then I will not be able to program it to my homelink?

ok, so the intelicode, I can just remove the old button that is wired to the wall and connect the intellicode there right and I'm set?

Hey everyone..

I have a question in regards to setting up the homelink system..

I am currently living in an duplex apartment, and the landlord didn't provide me with the garage door opener. (I don't even think he has one anyway) The garage opener seems kinda old.. It's a Chamberlain 1/3HP with what "8 Dip switches" in the back instead of a learn/program button.

So I just got the FX and wanted to see if I can program the Homelink to operate the garage door opener. If it works..then great, better convenience, if not.. then oh well, no biggie.. So I did a little searching, it appears that if I don't have the remote (clicker) than it's basically SOL..

So here is what I'm looking at..
(sorry for the size of pictures.. I haven't figure out how to resize them yet..)

This is the wall mount button that I use to open the garage with normally..
(notice the toggle switch on the right)

So my question is... How do i get this to work with the Homelink?? Or is this setup not even capable to work with Homelink without the remote clicker??

EDIT:

I just found this... Will this work?? I have no idea if I have a "fixed code device" or not.

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.. (sorry again for the huge images)

Thanks

Yea.. I just found the fixed code device instructions 6 in the morning..

I'm gonna go and buy a new 9 volt battery and try that out, but I just wanted to see if anyone had experience with programming their Homelink to a grage opener similar to the one I got.
