FX45 nailed

well, in my most recent trip to dallas, i had a bimbette run a red light while talking on the phone right out onto 121. since the speed limit for crossing traffic is 60mph, i had very little time, but i punched the brake pedal flat to the floor (let the computer sort out the details) and started fading from the center lane to the coned off left lane.

actually thought i had missed her for a sec (and would have if she would have TOUCHED the brakes before impact), then took the hit, lost the right front tire while under emergency braking, and finally came to a stop just out of the intersection (and bloody close to a light standard). the FX took it like a lady, she never wavered even when the right front was eviscerated. if i hadn't moved over, my FX would have hit the driver's door on her older ranger (mazda) pickup, and they would have been removing her with a strainer. as it was, i took the front bumper off, and shifted the front frame 3in to the right.

i doubt they are going to total it, but there is a tonne of damage to the RF and RD, the impact zone made it to the shock tower. it is at the local dallas infiniti dealer (crest) and i should hear from her insurance this week.

was just starting a test run of M1 TDT in the FX, and have a set of blizzaks waiting for it this winter. on the + side, we both walked away (although my knee is reminding me with every step) and i wasn't driving the miata. doing this with the miata would have purely sucked on toast....

ouch man. glad you are ok and were able to walk away from it. I am assuming she had insurance which will cover your expenses?

this is why CA has this law now, No phones usage during driving, unless it is hands free. Very glad to seethat you're okay pal, hope ur knee heals back to normal, sometimes they remind u of events years on down the road..

she has insurance

through USAA. we will see how well they do. i have a local shop that normally does my collision work, found it when someone rear-ended my wife's insight (all aluminum). not very happy at having it done by an outfit i don't know well, but crest is both the infiniti and the cadillac house. will be checking them out later today.

the knee is still aching, so may go to a doc this week on it. had my instrument instructor fly my cheetah down and pick me up, so at least i didn't have to drive back in an ford explorer. nice day, clear skies and a 20kt tailwind.

test drove a 09 FX35 while there, hood line is different but they are obviously derivative on the inside. like the a/c seats....but no heated steering wheel.

USAA is solid - you should have no problems with them. It's only offered to military and the families of military, so the organization reflects that organized professionalism.

tough luck buddy. glad to hear that you're safe. the other driver too...

also good to see that the FX can take some good damage.
