Working with a local G owner here in town, we decided to develop an FX specific kit for much cheaper than is currently available. In the past he had grounding issues with older Nissans, and through extensive research into the platform grounding, he determined a simple four wire kit that takes care of the shortcomings he identified.

4 wires:
Battery negative to throttle body
Battery negative to Headlight ground 1
Headlight ground 1 to engine
Engine to Headlight ground 2

He's done many installs on both Gs and 350s with only positive or neutral feedback. I bought a kit he made for the G and found that some of the lengths don't quite work for the FX engine bay. So the two of us decided to develop an FX specific kit - at least post the lengths for anybody that wants to make their own. If you want a kit from this guy, I can put you in touch - or organize a group buy.

The kits are great quality and come in any color you want since he covers each wire with tech-flex. I got a grey/carbon fiber color for my kit. Here's a photo, but keep in mind it is NOT installed according to directions because these cables don't reach to the intended areas. Obviously we'll test fit to my car before putting this kit out there.

Looking at all the threads in here on grounding kits, I noticed there are a lot more options for grounding locations. I wanted to ask the community which grounding locations should be standard as part of this kit? Please post and I'll include one or two more wires as standard for the FX in this kit.

1. Throttle Body
2. Headlight ground 1
3. Headlight ground 2
4. Engine

5. lower plenum?
6. transmission?
7. ECUs?

Finally, if any FX45 guys out there want in on this, you might have to send me the lengths specific to the 45 grounding locations.

Dang you respond fast!!!

Price for the four wire kit was $80. I hope to keep the whole kit to this price, even if we add a wire or two. Once I have the production kit and have it installed, I'll do a write up and answer any questions. I think the holidays are probably a good time to shoot for being finished with this.

how effective is the grounding kit? I have heard many people say that it is mainly for show and others to claim smoother shifts, etc.

forgot the word.. but basically the definition is that something is effective only because you think it is, but in reality it isnt.

up to you if you want to believe it or not..... I have it installed

think ill take the plunge and make a homemade one. even if it doesnt work, it still looks pretty cool

Guys:

If you going to have the Grounding Wiring to the ECU. MAKE SURE you seal the puncture you made on the wiring harness. Otherwise, during heavy rain, you will have water leaking into the ECU compartment and will cause problem to the car and the worst case fry the ECU.

The above suggestions came from my painful experience with my previous installation.

Hope this will eventually save some bucks for some of you from towing the FX and repairing bill from the stealership. :.smile:

Haha, actually I left for class a couple minutes after and was barely on time. But yeah, maybe I could even just drive down there to get it and get it installed.

Placebo is the word you were looking for.

This subject is debated on every forum. If there was a way to measure performance improvement, I'm sure we would see that evidence. The only objective way to measure grounding is using a multi-meter, checking for resistance (known as continuity). If you want to "know" the grounding kit is doing it's job, then check resistance between the two grounding points with a meter, then again after the ground kit is installed. If the resistance drops (and it should) then you have improved the capability and performance of your electrical system.

Does this translate to wheels to the ground "performance"? Hard to say. Maybe in some cars or even some models that have a weak grounding design. But I would guess the individual would have different experiences based on the unique set of mods they have. There are a lot of things that COULD be true, but can not be proven. Ask tuner shops - they also have split opinions about this. Some support it, some don't. The shop I use for stuff I can't handle does use them and recommended I get one.

-You COULD have a stronger spark on your plugs.
-a cleaner sounding stereo system (capable of playing louder)
-less signal loss & noise in the electrical system in general

Some people say they notice more crisp shifting or a smoother idle. I'm really writing this thread to try to coax out this discussion. I want input as to grounding points that actually seemed to help FX owners.

As for adding a bunch more wires, it can't really hurt unless you connect a grounding wire to a power wire (creating a short). There comes a point at which more wires don't help. The electricity wants to take the shortest path to ground and if you have two wires connected from the same object to two different places on the chassis, there's no benefit. One ground works just as well as two, as long as the resistance in the wire is low - which it should be with 8/4 gage wire.

Anybody that HAS a grounding kit should speak up - notice anything positive or negative? And can you recommend an additional grounding point or two in addition to the four I have identified above?

I have a kit similar to the kit "Gordy" sold before. I am using the 6 wire method that includes the transmission.
I felt a difference when I first installed it (smooth idle), but now have gotten used to it.
*hope the info I PMed you will help

thanks for the info jumbo. Of course i wasnt expecting the kit to have crazy gains but i do agree with the points you mentioned. Interested to see how this turns out

I have a 9 wire kit . This includes the ECU and Transmission points. There are a few people on this site that have this kit. Nobody has said anything negative ( although White Hair had an issue, but not really due to the kit, but due to the installation.)

When I first had it installed, it had a noticeably better idle, like Merch said, You get used to it...but the main thing I noticed, and still notice, is the crisper and faster shifting. When shifting manually before, it had a VERY slight lag. After install, there is no lag at all. I know HumbertoCali and Psicline have this same exact kit (Bert's FX45 is a little different, but same concept) and noticed the same things. Both of them have had good things to say.

Stereo louder - I didn't notice/ no diff
Lights brighter - I didn't notice/ no diff
