A few of us on here have done this mod following la_fx35's pics. I reached out to Andy, and he was kind enough to provide me with the part he used for it and where to get it. After that a few members asked about it, so instead of responding back and forth, and after clearing it with Andy, I decided to put together this short and easy DIY for our 1st Gen FXs. It is mainly for the 2003-2006 pre chrome lip on the bottom of the bumper, but not limited. And as always all mods carry a risk of a cool factor and we bare no responsibility for it going South .....

1. Tools you will need: A heat gun, drill, hexsaw, or saw blade, 3M automotive double sided tape, 2 - 3 screws, license plate screw covers (optional).

2. Order the part by following the link: ---> (2006 Jeep Cheeroke Skid Plate) http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/20...chanical_-ar-_trim/bumper_cover_retainer.html

3. The skid plate is slightly curved and also has some mounting brackets that need to be cut off with the saw.

Using the heat gun, heat up the ends of the plate (do not heat up the chrome side of the plate directly, or you will melt the chrome), and apply some pressure to flatten the sides, so it fits nicely against the underside of the bumper. Don't worry too much about the middle part, that's where the screws will come in and take care of the gap.

4. After it's straightened, drill 2 or 3 holes. Andy did two below the curve (under the tape on the pic), I did three towards the bottom (I didn't notice his holes placement after I was done:roll eyes:). Your choice. Place the 3M tape on both ends and along the top curved edge.

5. Place the plate under your bumper, and screw it to the underside of it. If you are bothered by the bare screws, that's when the license plate chrome screw covers come in place. To nicely hide the exposed screw heads.

Bam, you're done, and just gave your FX a badass status and additional 5HPs:))
Just to let you know, the plate is rounded in the front, so will leave a small gap.

Pics of Andy's and my FX with the plate on.
Good luck.

Post your pics and let's see if anyone else will get it on.

U said the plate is a 2006 jeep but when you click on your link. The site say it is a 2004 jeep. Does it matter? Is that the right one? Thanks

Awesome work! Will definitely look into this. Is the plate secured to the frame at all or attached only to the bumper cover? Wondering if there was a way to make it functional - able to deflect things you can't avoid in the road by tying it to the chassis for strength?

On looks alone I would do this mod. Painting it is a whole other consideration.

The plate is attached with screws to the lower part of the bumper and woth 3M tape on top. Because there really isn't anything solid in that area securing it to the plastic is the only way.

i was going to do this mod, but i have a 07 sport and there is a chrome trim part that sits a the front bumper cover. will this jeep part fit over top of this?

Probably not as well. This mod is more intended for 2003-2005 bumpers that are more curved and rounded. The 2006-2008 is more pointed because of the chrome strip.

Not that I know off. Only the 03 - 05 models. If you don't mind there will be a bigger gap where the skid plate meet up with the oem chrome strip, it's doable.

Aero, couldn't it just go over the chrome strip since it rounds out and would in sense reduce the gap and fit more snugly? Reason I even want to do this is my chrome strip cracked, i think its a clip on, so just buy a new one or do some kind of mod...

I wouldn't do it. You have to remove the existing chrome strip then and there are holes in the bumper from the trim piece that will show.
