anybody know how sti's gti's .... get a tad of flame out of there exhaust down shifting?? it can't be a mod lol

maybe its a stupid question lol

it's from running rich on the AF ratio (too much fuel running through) and the heat and gas meeting the o2 out of the exhaust tip makes it combust, maing a flame.

There's also a trick some hot-rodders use, they mount a spark plug either in the tip or just outside it, so they can press a button to ignite the exhaust fumes. (seen on Pimp My Ride)
 
Probably similar to this:

A stock Ferrari F430 will make these blue flames on full throttle up shifts.

NO NOS, NO gas injector, factory (Modena) engine mapping means timing is race car aggressive on full throttle. Aggressive timing equals more gas sent out the exhaust whenever throttle is lifted (automatically happens during shifting) and results in the blue flame (similar to the internal combustion of the engine!).

Haha i've seen that once live when i was racing a F430 with my Audi S4. Was great fun and the F430 driver had fun as well....got a thumbs up..!!

Jup running rich and less dampers and no cats.

But i seen a gadget somewhere once wich you can buy wich makes flames. I think you have to do a search in the Hot Rod world.

A buddy of mine with a Gallardo was making flames in broad daylight when we were playing cat and mouse. I've been told my car does it at night coming off throttle too but I haven't seen it.

All that being said, why the heck would you want an SUV to do that?
 
Beat catalysts and put HKS exhaust and you will have a small flame.
Importantly do not put Flame arrester. Or instead of HKS put Borla

he just wants a little backfire, not a flame thrower. it's easy, just tune your A/F so its way off so you have too much fuel running through so the vapors catch fire....
