Factory remote start?

So I have a 2004 FX35, and I like it, its a nice vehicle. But I've always wanted remote start. Now I've decided maybe its time for an upgrade, time to get a 2009+ second gen.

So I've been looking online for a 2009 FX35 with factory remote start. I know they didn't have factory remote start on the 2003-2008s, but I'm beginning to wonder whether it was even offered on the second generation 2009+ models. If it was, it seems pretty rare. Even harder to find than the "intelligent cruise" option, which I'd also like.

Do even the 2009+ FX35s offer factory remote start? Does this add another button to the key FOB, or is there an easy way to tell from online pictures whether one has it?

Thanks!

no factory remote start but you can install an aftermarket remote start and get it integrated to the factory key fob. which is what I did, to remote start i just press lock button 3 times

The FX does not come with a remote start function. The new 2016 Maxima comes with a factory remote start. So, I'm thinking later FX models will have this feature as well.
I have an aftermarket remote starter. I didn't op to program the factory key fob to remote start because of the range. The aftermarket remote gives me a mile range; with obstructions, I get about half that range. Over all, it's still better range than the factory fob.

How much did that set you back? I heard it's a hassle with a smart-key system. :bulgy-eyes:

I heard it was a hassle as well. The installer had to run many more wires for the remote starter to work properly.
I had the dealer install it as a requirement for purchasing the vehicle. I didn't see the invoice, but the sales guy said it cost $800. That's totally BS; it's just another sale tactic. I had a similar system installed on another car, and with parts and labor, it totaled to ~$500.

Although, the price tag is hefty at first. However, I truly believe it is a necessity during winter months while serving two purposes: Warming up the engine to optimal temperature and warming up the cabin. Below -20C, it becomes pretty miserable.

When i had my alarm installed in the fx, It cost me $800 for parts and labor. A bypass module is needed to install an alarm in the fx's due to not having the fob in the truck when using the remote start part. I agree that the alarm remote has better range. I did not want the fob programmed to start the fx. It might be a convenience but if the alarm goes off or the truck is running, how would you know with a factory fob.

There are plenty of previous threads discussing this in detail try searching for the subject.

I also have an aftermarket Viper with the Smart Start module installed. I have the Viper 5104 which came with the most basic remotes remotes they offer because I too have it connected to my factory key fob. The Smart Start module gives me world wide range as long as my car and my phone are both in a location where my cell phone provider (Verizon) is getting reception. So I don't even use the Viper remotes, they've been in the box since day one. I use the factory key fob, and when I need extra range I use my cell phone. The Smart Start module works extremely well but it is using your cell phone provider to start your car so if your cell phone service is crappy then the Smart Start will be crappy. I've heard some complain but I've had it going on 4 years and I can count the number of times it gave me a hard time on one hand. With the Smart Start you can lock/unlock, start the car and a few other features. The Smart Start also sends your phone a text message whenever your alarm goes off.

I've had this set up on my last three cars which were all FX's and I will continue to use this set up on all my future cars as long as the install is possible. IMO it's the best way to go.

One of the Infiniti dealers did not recommend Viper Smart Start to me. I don't remember exactly his words but I think he said that the system locks up in case of a dead battery. What happens when you replace the car battery? Do you need to do anything to Viper Smart Start?

That's not true I killed my battery once by stupidly paying the radio while I did an oil change, and shortly after it died again because it was time to replace it when I killed it anyway, and I had no issues with my Viper alarm or SmartStart. I got a jump and it was back to normal. I hate when guys at the dealership give advice when they don't know what the f*ck their talking about. It's not like those guys go to FX school, their selling cars that half of them don't take the time to research. Those guys are going to tell you it's bad to do anything that is not OEM to your vehicle.

I've disconnected the battery before doing some electrical work. The remote start system comes back normal after I connect the battery back in.
