Electronic exhaust cutout system on FX50?

I have seen electronic exhaust cutout system installs on older models and newer model fx35/37, but has anyone ever done it on the 50? I'm thinking of doing it on mine and installing a x-pipe pre resonators - just wondering if I should place the cutouts after the x-pipe or after the resonators. I want the ability to go quiet near oem sound and wild when I want loud.

Ahh, in Maryland I see. I would like to get one of these installed at Swift Racing. Going to buy the cutout online. My dilemma is trying to figure out if we need single or dual and what size piping.

Hey carbon, yep...in MD. Not sure on the FX37...on the 50 it'll be a dual setup. I am half tempted to get the QTP system from Summit along with a x-pipe and start pulling the exhaust apart to see what sounds best.

The QTP is very good from what I've heard. Looks like Im true dual as well. Probably get it installed to bypass just the rear axleback.

Looks similar to mine. I think it would be a little tight trying to put it in between the resonators and the muffler. Not much room there.

There is room on the mid pipes for cutouts after the resonators. I was looking into installing a pair when I was messing around with my exhaust. If you want to double check, simply measure the length of pipe, then get the measurements of the cutouts, see if it fits. Alternatively you can delete the resonators and replace them with the cutouts and install smaller resonators so it's nearly stock with them closed....

It's going back on the lift today...time for a "sound check" minus resonators and muffler.

That's going to be extremely loud.

If you want a sound check sans mufflers, check my youtube out --> youtube.com/jebaker1121

Open cats is race car loud. Impractical for slow driving, belongs on a drag car. if you're looking for power when you;re already rolling at high speeds, however....

I'd put the cutouts after/where the resonators are and put aftermarket resonators in either before or after them. depending on how loud you want it. (aka resonators still there with them open, or resonators only there when closed)

Couldn't squeeze it in on the lift yesterday, trying again today. Thanks for the tip - we are going to try post resonator sound first, then sans resonator. Race car loud, eh? Well THAT would be interesting going from OEM to race car loud when somebody pulls up to me at a light. :eek.:

You wouldn't want to use cutouts from a stop light...unless it's just to intimidate - you'll lose some low end torque with them open (thats why I said 'when already rolling at high speeds') although this is debatable.
I drove my car around for 20 min with the entire exhaust off after the cats and 1. it was extremely loud 2. low end torque noticeably lesser

If I were you, to find the right sound, I'd do the following:

1. Remove Muffler only, so 'open mid pipe' - take car off lift, have someone start it while you listen to the sound. (while driving too if you let people do that)
2. Remove Muffler + Midpipe, so "open cats" - take car off lift again, do the same to hear how it sounds.

This won't be exactly what it sounds like, because you'll have a little different piping with the exhaust on, but it is extremely close.

If you go to my youtube like I said, you can hear what the car sounds like with a Muffler delete aka #1 above (youtube.com/jebaker1121)

Do those 2 things, see which you prefer, and use that to see where you want to put the cutouts (either before or after resonators)

I'm not sure how you like your cars, but even when I had just the muffler delete I thought it was slightly too loud for the FX50, even though it sounded awesome by v8 car standards i got tired of it. 3 exhaust versions later and I'm happy, though I have been playing with the idea of cutouts.

Just from what I remember playing around with my car, I think if you want something that screams V8 to use only sometimes for fun, and not full time, I would go before the resonators, with the cutout pipe exiting just before the rear tires (that way with windows down it's not pumping exhaust right into your cabin)

Well, the car went on the lift this am and the pipe was disconnected at the cat...all I can say is you are absolutely right - LOUD AS HELL. Taking into consideration some of the points you made, I'm now starting to play with the idea of running a setup with HFCs to a smaller resonator to the QTP cutouts setup to the stock exhaust. That should probably be the ticket and give me the torque and sound I want when I want to go aggressive and quietness when I don't (or when the wife and kids are along for the ride). I figure it'll be about $7-800 for the setup.

This is very interesting. I always wondered what i needed to do to get that race car sound but not having it all the time. Only when needed. Deffinitely looking forward to this!

Yeah, I needed to do best of both worlds for the kids and wife's sake. I've done some reading on this on other forums and the electric cutouts seem to be the ticket here. Nice and quiet for a nite out with the wife and loud and obnoxious when I want to play.

From what I can tell, yes. However, I think I am going to run it to a switched power source.

So, on the recommendation of my mechanic, I am going to start with just the QTPs and the x-pipe to start with. He thinks that changing so much with the exhaust setup so quickly may result in me not liking the results if it's too agressive. I'll look to do the smaller resonators and HFCs after I have run with that setup for a while. Plus, it keeps the wallet from hurting too much with all the other stuff I have been doing. Ordering up the parts shortly and scheduling my install.

Crap, just as soon as I thought I had this sorted, something better came to my attention that is going to be about the same cost...but means I won't be able to go from mild to wild. I have a new trick up my sleeve, and it's going to be awesome. I'll disclose when it's done.

Wowww is that what it actually sounds like with muffler delete?
I actually wanted to remove the muffler & bolt up some custom straight pipes
aswell lol.
