Anyone have a stock headlamp opened up that can measure me the chrome rings on the projector and turn signal side?

Photos would be great if possible showing a ruler up against both.

Please and thank you :smile (2):

Wow those look amazing! Thank you. Yes, I'm trying to piece together parts for my headlight project. Do those rings use inverters? or are those resistor packs on the wires?

That's the problem with LED's. If you want white, there has to be a yellow coating to get the blue out. If you were to get these in blue, the coating would be white. Only other way to get around this is go CFL (which tend to fail often) or get rings that have a white lens overtop covering the yellow.

Below are four variations of angel eyes. The one that doesn't show the yellow much is in the top right. The rest all have yellow especially the cob in the bottom right.

The lights look nice when lit. When I had my 1st gen, I had the top-left type of angel eyes (only option at the time) installed. Turned off, each LED had a yellow spot. Turned on, it was pure white.

I had the Morimoto Xb led rings on my 1st gen. Extremely bright. However, due to the yellow phosphorus coating, I did a black and yellow theme so it would blend in.

Now that i have a silver FX, i feel those rings would really clash. I'm thinking of using the rings 180 customs uses for their orb rings, which is made by luce produkt I believe. Just kind of pricey in my opinion.

OnebadfX has them: https://www.infinitiscene.com/searc...aka-180Custom-amp-what-we-did-to-a-One-Bad-FX

I don't know what the difference is, but they sell these 80 mm rings for $75 a pair

The more expensive one appears to have the cover over them to hide the yellow. There also appear to be more LED's on there which will give it a more uniform look.

Did they ever release it? They were supposed to be working on it late last year, haven't seen any updates. I'm guessing they're just going to put some sort of white diffusor over them and it will look more like a CCFL ring. Don't think they would be able to make the actual LED's white unless they know something no one else does.

I read it was released but sold out. I never seen it listed myself so either it was really good and they're making more or it failed. The one other way to make white is to use red, green and blue LEDs and turn all of them on, they'll create white. I have an LED strip like that and it creates white using those three colors.

Supposedly they were working on one that was white when off as well. But other than a few forum threads, there's no news and nothing on their site. I don't think it will be any different than the others who just put a diffuser over it. The Umnitza rings on my BMW look white when off, but if you look closely, the LED's are still yellow behind the plastic. It's the easiest way, I don't think they'd go with multicolored LED's.

Couldn't we just put a light coat of paint on them to cover the yellow? They are bright enough so I'm sure the light will go through no problem.

Yes, someone put niteshades i believe and it decreased the output immensely.

That's what I read on TRS as well. Any coating you put on will decrease the output substantially. If you put any colors, especially dark ones like NightShades, it will attract more heat during the day because black attracts most of the color spectrum. Whereas white/yellow repels most light.

The only way to create white light is to use all three colors, red, green and blue without using yellow. White LEDs are created using blue with a yellow coating over top. If you were to scrape off the yellow, you'd have blue light.
