I got into an accident the day before and it looks like I'll have to take a trip to the body shop. I asked TurboCad for an advice to fix or replace the front bumper and he said it'll be better to replace it and I agree. The thing that comes up to my mind is that if I get this bumper fixed, I have a chance to get the lower parts painted as well. What do you guys think? Would it look good or would the matte black grille stick out with body color lower parts?

Dave, I'll post a pic of it when it was fine. Could you color it so that the black plastic parts are the body color as well?

Here's the pic of the damage:

The insurance paid $2000 for the repairs (they included the left headlight as well) and it looks like I'm not at fault so it won't affect my insurance.

Here's when it was fine:

as a side note: It looks like I'm going to take the "resident thread starter" title from Mike soon :smile:

I say get the lower trims painted a semi gloss black, so it looks like it has armor all on it all the time. I really like the black lower pieces on our cars.

awww im sorry man, what happened?

And old guy got into my way from behind a truck and I t-boned him. Still not sure if insurance will mark me as not-at-fault, even if they said I would be but I didn't run any red light or any stop sign and he didn't really stop on his stop sign.. Anyhow, there were two lessons:

1) Almost 85-90% of ALL Massachusetts drivers don't know how to fucking drive
2) The first gen's brakes suck. Especially the pedal feel.. It was already half way down when I realized he was going to get in front of me and it didn't even had started to slow down..

Sorry to hear about the accident. I don't think I've ever seen a FX with painted lowers. I think it would look great. It works for nearly every other car I can think of so I don't see why it wouldn't also improve the aesthetics of the FX also.

Not as good as Dave's work... just stand back 10 feet

That's going to be a tough photo to judge by for lack of contrast. Nice to see a full shot of your ride though. Do you have more photos?
Good work Jeff!

I'm posting URL links. The pics themselves are a little big:

I doubt these will give the contrast you need though.. They're taken at the same location at the same times..

As for painting it, I think it'll look good but if I get it painted body color (along with the fender pieces), I think there won't be enough black to match with the grille. Painting it semi-gloss or gloss black will also add another tone to the whole thing so it looks like it's either body color or a replacement bumper with stock black plastic.

Maybe I should get the whole car painted white! It'd be the only white FX with orange interior :rofl:

Nice pshop work. It looks awesome as expected, night and day difference. I can't believe we don't have more owners with painted lowers yet. It's a no brainer. Possibly my 1st cosmetic mod. I will have to go and get a quote asap.

:dito: .... I also like the black pieces on our FX's, it gives it a nice contrast.

Edit - Sorry bout the accident dude.

What I like about painted lowers is that it instantly makes a car look lower without making any physical changes. So for all those FX owners that are going for the "sports car" look I think this is a no brainer. Those that like the FX to keep some of it's "truckness" appeal, the black lower trim works well imho.

I don't definitely need it to look lower, especially with the 275/40 winters now.. Look at the space between the mud flap and the ground.. Need to take that out..

Stop racing, and you won't t-bone people's cars !!!

Why not get (if available) that front bumper Viet was selling ?
Gecmis olsun.

Sagolasin.. Salak Boston'lular iste.. Adam dedigimi duymuyordu bile

I don't think his bumper will look that good on mine, it's the color factor.. Plus his bumper is for 03-05 I believe. Even if the bumper fits, my grille won't..
