Hey everyone.

So i did some searching about the oem bug deflector and just wanted to get some input from people who have it as to if they think it really helps keep bugs/ rocks from hitting the windshield?

Im on the fence about getting one but ive seen a couple members who painted it (silver) to match the rest of the car and i dont think it looks bad but i didnt want to waste ~$100 on this if it doesnt really do much....

Not sure if its just me but it seems like my fx always has bugs all over the front moreso then my G35 ever did.

Thanks

Bugs yes, rocks not so much..Had them on my previous truck.. I think it looks good on the 1st gen.. Get it color matched :top:

They definitely help for bugs on the windshield and will on occasion deflect stones from hitting your hood. I have used bug deflectors on probably half a dozen vehicles.

they def work for bugs and rocks. i drove to quebec/ montreal and all they do is sand and rock the roads in the winter. Before i bought one, i took a trip down and i got pelted with rocks which ended up scratching my windshield. After that, i bought wind deflector, took the same trip and the wind deflector damps the rocks impact on your windshield/ shoots them over.

yeah I've heard it does wonder with rocks...it's not that it prevents it....but if you did still get hit with some rocks, you would have gotten hit much harder than if you didn't have it as well.

Does the install require drilling or is it a simple clip on? I'm interested if this is something that you can just easily remove and install when you go for long distance road trips.

just some clips screws and plugs. no drilling required

Thanks Viperi. More questions...

By meaning screws, does it go into any of the hood's hardware? I guess my main concern is if it leaves some unsightly marks on the car or even holes when you decide to remove it one day. I saw a stock FX a few block from my neighborhood and he has this on his ride. I can see some dead leaves and other crap wedged in between the deflector and the hood. There is also an outline of dry patchy looking area underneath the deflector.

I am nor sure if that is a product largely of lousy maintenance or the inacessibility to reach that area or challenges to remove it for cleaning is a contributing factor.

I agree, I wouldn't want to add it to my ride unless it's 100% removable without any damages even slightly. I'd put it on before a long trip and then remove it once I reach the destination.

The same company that makes the outer vent visors also make them, but I haven't seen a pic of it installed.

what's the name of the company?

I just got mine in the mail. :)

The OEM version has a few clips that go onto the front of the hood. It comes with "abrasive resistant" 3M tape for protecting the paint on the hood where the clips attach.

Thanks Ian, but these have screws that look like it would go into the hood. :eek.: And DAM that's expensive for a piece of NON OEM plastic!

there are holes under the hood. you put a plastic plug there, then screw in the bracket to the plug, THEN screw the deflector to the brackets. if you want to remove the deflector, it can easly be removed from the brackets with 4-5 screws to clean behind it. If you want to remove it 100% ( bracket and deflector), it can be done easily by unscrewing the whole assembly brackets and deflector as once piece by few screws under the hood.

I havent had an issue with stuff stuck behind it as its design allows stuff to blow off when driving or put your hand behind it

Screws go into the clips, not the hood. No damage at all. I haven't seen a 2nd gen with it on though.

I like the way it looks on 1st gen. If you have a back FX, use it as it is. If other color, its best to color match. Now that I have a Diamond Graphite, I will paint it to match the body color. As for function, I think it helps with bugs and rock chips.

I took mine off but when it was taken off i saw it rubbed against the hood and i now have minor scratch along the front line of the hood.....

Has this ever happened to anyone ?
The clips may have bent from stranger leaning on cars without realizing lol nyc neighbors .....
