Bose subwoofer...

Hi all - new to the forum and FX, but had a question. I have an 06 FX35 with sport, touring, and tech, but when I received the vehicle last weekend I found that there was no Bose sub in the spare tire. I was wondering if this was some option that somehow didn't make it to my car, or if the previous owner just forgot to include it. I was under the impression that the Bose system was standard in 06+ model years, and included the in-spare wheel sub.....

I do have the connector plug (can't post pics yet, d'oh!).

I was also wanting to check out options - is the Bose sub worth getting even as an interim measure? For $300 (online used price I found), I'd rather consider Wicked C.A.S. system and a separate amp....

Thanks!

Steve

Hmmm.. I thought all FX's came with Bose lol but let's see.. do your center speakers say Bose?

I have the Bose sub and there is NO WAY I would spend $300 to replace it. $100 maybe, if it was convenient. Your alternate idea will sound much better.

@g0ldm4g3 - yes, they are Bose, which is why I was so puzzled...

@tchuck - that's my thought too.....I've seen a few comments about the Wicked C.A.S. box being thin. Any ideas/thoughts?

Tks!

Steve

Almost all FX's come with the BOSE sub in the spare tire. There are a VERY few low edition FX's that don't have it, but not an 06. I can't believe yours didn't come with it. The original owner either blew his out or sold it before trading it in. I've seen ebay auctions for the stock sub go for $50 if your lucky. Right now they are approx $200.

You could go Infinity Basslink:

Infinity Basslink II - $290 http://www.woofersetc.com/p-3368-basslink-ii-infinity-10-powered-subwoofer-w-passive-radiator.aspx

Mtbfx went with a Kicker powered substation:

OR if you want to go custom, go to a local audio place and see what they can do. A nice shallow mount sub in a custom box(probably fiberglass) under the factory tire cover with a nice amp.. approx $800-$1000. Well that really depends on how crazy you want to get....

Thanks all....saw CrackaJaxson's on a search earlier. That was cool, but I need to retain the spare (mountain driving in CO). The neon purple is way too OTT for my tastes, but cool nonetheless.

@Squishymedic....for an interim fix, how much would you be looking for regarding the OEM Bose?

@tchuck.....looked at a lot on searches....Jumbo's sounds familiar, but I can't picture...was that two JL 10's?

Anyway, if I can pick up a used factory Bose for $50 to $100, that'll do it until I get all the other components sorted. FYI, I'm looking for sound quality, not quantity. I listen to everything from dubstep and rap through sultry stuff like Nora Jones/Dido, and Spanish guitar such as Marc Antoine, even to RATM etc. Just no country :wink (2):

Thanks all,

Steve

One other question @toy4x....are the systems you showed ones that will fit into the spare? I'm looking to preserve trunk space if possible....

Thanks!

Steve

None of these will save spare tire...oops except JBakers old set up. Only way to do it is custom, or just get a bose replacement....hard to find for less than $100... But I have seen it.

Oh and basslink will keep your stock spare, but will look like mtbs set up.

If you wanted to preserve trunk space, take a look at this enclosure. I have one in my trunk and loving it. http://www.wickedcas.com/gallery/v/magicboxes/FXMAGICBOX/

That's the one I've been looking at. Wicked C.A.S. is on the370z forum (the car I was looking at actually, long story for another time). I've read some posts about it being pretty thin.....any issues? Even with a JL 10W6 (what I'd go with)?

Thanks!

Steve

No Wicked CAS is only the enclosure. It's a Rockfor Fosgate grille. Grille is optional when you buy the woofer.

I have a 10W7 in my WickedCAS box no issues, sounds great.

Thanks guys. Long term, Wicked C.A.S. is where I'll go, but for now I've worked out a deal with Squishymedic for his OEM unit (thanks Chris!)
