the truck only has 78000 km and is never driven hard dealer maintained

Purple haze!!!! Jk. Fxlr8 is right usually blue smoke or any sort of smoke is related to the oil.

The fx45 engine does tend to burn a bit of oil, I believe 1 quart between oil changes is considered normal for the vk45 engine.

Did a loud start-up noise directly proceed the blue smoke???? If so, it is somewhat of a known issue with the v8 vk engine. There have been some hypotheses on this but the most credible one seems to the chain/cam tensioner leak down theory. The blue smoke seems to be by product of this culprit. I have had this happens once in 4 years but has not happened again. It also seems so be associated with and pre-ceeds very brief startup and off of the engine in cold weather. No recall or TSB for this but the dealer will usually have a diagnosis of throttle bodt residue build-up and gladly charge you $$$ for a job you can easily but carefully do own your own. http://www.infinitifx.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1568&hilit=loud

no noise on start up when it happens but 2 oil changes ago they filled my car up with oil to the fill line on the dip stick and after a notice a shutter on accelaration the dealer told me that there is a tsb on that and it shoud not be filled all the way so they fixed the probleme and no more shuter could that have cause'd a problem

i've also notice the smoke like 3 times in the last 4 months

like a said its very random and only when the car as been sitting overnight or longer

Then I would be leaning towards some excess oil residue that is causing the blue smoke. I have never had any problems with 7 quarts of mobile 1 at every oil change. Never top off.

ok so i should not really worry to much about it but i will monitor it thanks for the reply .

i would also like to make my fx faster what would be a good mod to start with.
i can not find anywere air intake systeme lms does not make them anymore do you have any sugestions.

angel eyes are they hard to install?

regards

As long as it isn't an excessive amount of consumption... it is normal, as previously stated.

Even tells you in the service manual:

"It is normal to add some oil between oil
maintenance intervals or during the
break-in period, depending on the severity
of operating conditions."

JWT just came out with the pop charger for the 45. Look here ///5734
And, weapon-R has a cold air intake for the 45 too give them a call or check out their site for more info.

Ok my car was sitting in my laneway for 2 days and i started it up today and again got a puff of blue smoke come out of my tail pipes only on start up then goes away my car is going in to the dealer monday will they be able to varify if the valve seals are leaking. could it be something else. should i be worried about it.

Last I heard LMS didn't have the kit but was still selling the intake tube itself.
Last time I called he still had both the aluminum Z-tube and the longer Short Ram Intake aka CAI tube. Give him a call & if he still has the longer tube, all you need is a 3" coupler or 3" X 3 1/4" reducer & your filter of choice.

oil consumption

After seing that blue smoke on start up only i've been checking my oil level i had gotten my oil changed at the dealer @ 79747 km and now i'm at 80400km
my oil level is now in the middle of the high level dot and the low level dot
on the dip stick. is that abnormal.

VH45DE engines burn oil, very normal.

I check my oil level and top it off every 3,000 miles. I get my oil changed every 5,000 miles (synthetic) now.

blue smoke on start up #2

ok now my car does it every time i start it so it's getting wors than before my car is going in to the dealer on monday if it's the valve seals they better replace my engine right away and forget doing a oil consumption test because they can see that ther is blue smoke on start up (burning oil) dont want to wait until i have a problem with my catalic converters due to oil deposits. i will keep you guys posted on the issue.

just for some advise what would you do if you had my problem

Hi guys

my x dealership told me that blowing blue smoke on cold start up was normal so i decided to hit a other dealership and they told me that this was not normal to do that. i brought my car in to be looked at and they had started it up and they saw no smoke. but i did video tape the smoke on start up and showed them.

there course of action was to remove the intake manifold and the valve covers and they noticed oil pooled under the intake manifold like 3 tspoons worth there is no carbon build up anywere and the pcv valves seemed to be ok.

so they said that they would replace the pcv valves and the 2 valve covers
and that there still waiting for infinti canada to advise them.

can there be any other reason for that oil to be pooled in that area.
