Black Suede Headliner

I have a question for those that have done a black suede headliner. How hard was it to do? Any issues I might run into? What kind of supplies will I need we'll besides the suede itself? I'm about to tackle this project on the G next week because its a cheap mod to do myself. A local fabric store has black suede that I want for a good price.

Get this, all pro shops are using this stuff(must have/use):
dap landau top and trim adhesive

Stretchable suede is a big plus, I bought mine on sale at Hancock Fabrics. I did my headliner twice(picked up a wrong glue first time). It's tricky, but definitely doable.

Thanks ill get the adhesive then

Is suede harder to work with than vinyl? I'm pretty good with vinyl as you could see on my interior cf wrap.

Yeah, its a bit harder to work with. Very easy to wrap small flat parts with suede . The manufacturer recommends to use a spray gun, but I used a regular brush with no problems.

Alot of people apply on top. id buy tons of gloves, a mini paint roller and tray for the glue( dollar store or home depot sells cheap), and a roller just compress the suede once glue and suede is applied.

Ahh I see I'm just afraid of messing it up ripping it off haha

by the way how do you get the suede to conform to the curved surfaces?

Make sure you get suede that is designed for automotive applications. They actually do make suede specific for headliners, it is much more stretchable than regular. Also the automotive kind is UV resistant, a lot of the regular stuff they sell in fabric stores will fade in the sun. It's similar to vinyl work, but it is harder.

Ohh guess I won't go to the fabric store tomorrow then.

Any links to automotive suede? I always thought suede is suede. That is unless you get alcantara suede which I'm not paying for haha

Only automotive suedes that I know of are Alcantara and Ultrasuede, both are very expensive. Many fakes also.

No problem. A wooden roller will be very helpful also.

I picked mine up from an automotive fabric shop. The headliner material has more padding on the back and stretches a lot more. You may be able to find the same stuff at a fabric store, not sure. I would just ask them if its uv resistant, I'd think that's the most important thing. Won't matter so much on headliner, but if you do the pillars, you don't want it to fade.
