Several years ago I was driving (not in the FX) on the highway. I hit a bump and the whole thing slid down and scraped, chipped paint off the rear of my car and the car bumper. That was enough for me. But in general it's more of a pain in the ass too.
I've mostly used the Thule attached to the roof rails on other cars and they do look nice but having used a hitch on my last truck I have to say it's much easier than the roof thing. Not to mention it's wifey approved
I have the hitch rack for bikes, and roof rack for kayak and snow gear. I have all Yakima stuff with the single key system. I think the roof rack for bikes is fine if you have one of the super light bikes. but my bike is pretty heavy. Also it seemed like it would be pretty easy to mess up when putting the bike up on the roof and scratch the crap out of your car.
Also getting the hitch leaves you open to towing a trailer later.
i also was thinking about which choice to go with, i dont wanna put a hitch under my car i only like oem hitch and my fx didnt come with one.. i just think i am going with yakima frontloader. what you guys think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npXcypYzcFk
