My wife and I are planning on doing a day trip up to Big Bear this Sat. What would be the best route? W or E entrance?

probably a easy day, planning on the Alpine Slide, maybe check out the convention center (Fall Festival), I also noticed BB is having "The 2nd Annual Antlers & Hot Rods Run to Fawnskin" -- cool

anybody have any suggestions? I went and checked out bigbear.com, and got some ideas there... http://www.bigbear.com/activities/events_calendar/?cfil=&mo=09&yr=2009&dy=05

(Mtn FX) John I know you live up there any thing I should be aware of this time of the year?

thanks

I like Hwy 38 through mentone the best thats considered the scenic route. The corners are banked better, much nicer corners and traffic is usually lighter that way.
If you decide to go 38 then take the 10 to Redlands get off at University dr turn left(north) off the offramp drive past University of Redlands to Lugonia turn right and this will take you all the way to Big Bear.

As to things to watch out for -

A bear was hit last week, If it rains watch out for rocks in the road and of course there's this------

chplogo-thumb1.jpgThe Labor Day weekend is a Maximum Enforcement Period for the California Highway Patrol and, starting this evening (Friday) at 6pm and through Monday at midnight, every available officer will be on the road. CHP officers will be on the lookout for violators of the three major causes of highway deaths: speeding, drinking and driving, and not wearing seatbelts.

I went up to Lake Arrowhead 2 weekends ago and on my way down, I saw like 10-12 Mini Coopers cruising up the mountain. I think they were going towards Big Bear. We should do something like that. It's a fun drive going up there. On the 2 lane part of the drive going up we can pair up so other drivers don't pass us and then merge to one lane.

Damn your tint looks even darker cuz your car is all black. Don't you get hassled by the cops? I have a black mustang and my black tint always got me pulled over. I got tired of stripping the tint off and paying $25 that now I don't put any tint.

The Mini's and BMW drive their new models up the mountain thru Big Bear all the time they have been doing this for years.I think they are testing mountain road miles .I'll try to get some pics next time I see them up here. The BMW's are usally covered up with large loose fitting bra's to disquise them.

oh cool. Yeah, looks like fun. It looked like they were from a "Mini" forum. The majority of them were modded.
