Andrew does really good work for the price which is why im going back to him in March after this shitty winter is over. Really fun guy to talk to with good laughs too.

lol i would hope so. i dont have to break my workers balls often. they know what i want from them & they all are good at what they do for me. i make sure to double check over theyre work before the car leaves the shop. that is when i sometimes break theyre balls. if i find something im not happy with i point it out to them. i make them go over it untill im pleased with what theyve done. if they dont want me to bother them then theyll do what i ask them & theyll do it right the first time. they have theyre work to do & i have mine. i have minimal issues with my workers. sometimes i offer to help them & they tell me they dont need me. they tell me i should get back to doing what i was doing in polishing the car next to the one they are working on lol.
my guys are trained to do everything in the shop except handle a machine & compound or polish a car. they all know how to tape a car but im picky with how the cars are taped so i prefer to do that myself.
my korean worker actually has the best set of eyes out of the 3 that work for me. hes the only one that knows how to wetsand overspray off a car. sometimes ill have him help me on that.
anyways, im thinking about training johnny korea how to polish a car. hes been with me from the start. its always been a secret dream of mine to watch johnny polish a car on his own. i would be so proud of him lol! if i teach him how to polish the only thing left is for him to learn korean so i can get some new customers from Flushing, which is just a few towns over from me lol. Flushing is flooded with Koreans & they all drive nice dirty cars lol.

the customer wanted the color restored without me really going all out.
he was selling the car at the time & had someone lined up to look at her after i was finished.
overall you can see there was a big improvement made.

the paint looked really dull & tired. i noticed i was getting a lot of paint transfer on the orange pad. i decided to switch to the green pad which for the brand of pads i use is just a little less aggressive.
yellow,orange,green then blue which is the least agressive.

with a green pad i was able to restore the color & remove most but not all of the scratches. i had to be gentle with this beauty of a car. there looked to be a decent amount of body work & non factory paint sprayed.

this job didnt call for the car to be worked on under the halogens, just in case you were wondering =)

when the car was finished she looked sexy & the customer was really happy.
he told me he missed driving her so much he couldnt wait any longer to get it back.

pouring fresh water on the finished side of the hood & to the before side.
water seems to fall off with this combo.
again, its klasse high gloss sealant glaze
topped with collinite 476s super double coat paste wax.

i have always felt more comfortable applying a nice medium to thick coat of any wax or sealant. applying a thin coat makes me feel like i would be cheating the customer. i like to know that the wax is on the car so i will continue to do it this way.

how would i detail your car if your over there in chicago? you flying me in?

at this point i give the car a final look over before i get to work on the paint.
i found some burnt edges from the previous detailer, or hack or wannabee in my terms.
probably some idiot at a local autobody body shop is guilty for this.
im pretty sure most of the car was worked on & repainted. it mightve had a complete respray,
sorry, i dont remember =).
the customer provided me with some fresh mixed touch up paint to play with.

Big "A" Detailing: Calcium Depot Stains on BMW Paint -vs- Vinegar

1-9-11

2011 BMW 328i XDrive

with calcium deposit stains from underground parking garage pipes.

ignore the swirls as the customer was only concerned about
removing the stains on her couple of month old Bimmer.

i know, i know i wanted to go more aggressive & do some compounding & polishing steps
with my Dewalt DW849 rotary but the woman wasnt interested.
she wanted to pick up the car the next day. when a womans mind is made up, its made up! ppft!

i promised to remove all of the calcium deposit stains on the first night
& deliver her car all finished the following afternoon.

i had to come up with a quicker way to attack this car as rotary compounding & polishing
wouldve taken more time but wouldve produced better final results.

so i went on google & started to search ways to clean calcium deposit/limescale stains.
i found this article & to my surprise i had a bottle of vinegar just laying around the shop.
oh lucky me, lets see if this actually works!

i got the vinegar several months ago to remove water stains off glass for another customers car.
now i know why that didnt work out to well.

the secret is leaving the straight vinegar soaked paper towels on the surface for at least one hour!

what was used.

the car is clay barred & taped. all of the prep work is now finished.
its time to attack the calcium deposit stains with distilled white vinegar!

i went around the car a few times taking pics of the damaged parts of the car.
only the front drivers side wheel had calcium deposit stains.
all of the glass was clean except for a spot on the sunroof & the rear glass.
i hand polished all of the glass with #000 steel wool
& double edge razor blades just to make sure i didnt miss anything.

i removed the paper towels that were soaking for about an hour & a half.
i take some new paper towels & soak them in some fresh vinegar.

washing the stained surfaces with vinegar.
the car was completely clay barred before any soaking was started.
once the halogen bulb is clear i know i pulled out all of the calcium deposits.
lucky for the customer the stains were only on there for a few days.

07 Cayman Overspray Removal+Correction 117px

i did this car in october. hope you all enjoy the work that was done =)

brief description of the work done:

by random selection i decide to use the roof as the test area. on the roof is where i will figure out exactly which compound pad + compound & which polish pad + polish to use.
the clear was pretty hard & the scratches & swirls were pretty bad.
when i do a job like this i always aim for as close to 100% defect removal as possible.
since the clear was hard i had to go over the car a few times with both compound & polish. i would compound an area twice, three times & then polish it once or twice. id get to 95% removal & compound the area one more time then polish it one last time.
whatever it took to glass out the clear, i never rush my work.

with the roof out of the way & the game plan drawn up ill walk around the car again before i get into it with some compounding. just a quick reminder of the work that i need to do for this car.
ill go back to my desk for a few mins & write up on the pad what you saw from pics 1-5.
ill write out the list of what pads & products to use etc. i make the list for me so i can keep track of what i need to do. then i take a pic & post it up for all of you as an alternitive to typing it up again lol. trying to save a little time as these writeups take a long time to put together.
i taped off a few areas where i will take 50/50 pics for the writeup. i really take the time to think & plan everything out. thats the only way to go about doing this. every car is different, some take longer time to figure out whats needed to do than others. some cars are easy, some are hard. i prefer a challenging job, they make me smile more after im done than an easy job lol. =D

each light contains a 500 watt halogen bulb.
i use up to 2000 watts at a time for usually just the hood, roof & trunk.
they are the largest sections to work on so i feel they need to be inspected under the most amount of halogen light. i want to expose all of the paints defects to make them completely visible.
to remove them i first have to have a good look at them.
some detailers work in the dark with just the halogen lights on but i cant get used to it so i leave the shop flourescent lights on at all times during the job.
the combination of halogen & flourescent light gives me the best view of the condition of the clear coat.
when working in the dark with just the halogens on i dont like the weird shadows the halogen light creates on the car. it makes it sometimes hard for me to inspect the small area that im working on.
most of the work gets done under 1000 watts.
i tried to turn on 2500 watts the first time i used the halogen tree & the circut breaker tripped.

you can see in this 50/50 shot above that i didn't get all of the scratch out. that's what remains from a bunch of very deep scratches after going over the little wing a few times each with compound & polish.
this bothered me a lot so i taped it up again & went back at it till i got it as close to perfect as i thought was possible.

yea i will never give up the polishing & hand over the machine to an employee.
ive always handled all of the polishing alone. i have my guys doing all of the dirty work. all i want to do is polish lol.

1966 ford f100 pickup truck teaser shot comming soon!

i did a polishing, lil interior clean-up & applied some wax to the paint.
all chrome surfaces were hand polished with #000 steel wool, other metal surfaces polished with metal poliching creme.

anyway, the truck was shot down at the family auto salvage yard.
