Battery Issues?

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if any of you had any issues with your battery. I have an 09 FX50 and I've been having issues with my battery dying in the last week and a half.

1st time: I was at the car wash, and usually the guys from the car wash turn on the hazards while going through the process of watering, soaping and drying. By the time they finished (about 15-20 mins of my hazards turned on), I get into my car to turn on the engine and the battery was dead! :eek.:

2nd time: I was parking into my parking spot at work (and usually I turn on the hazards while reversing into my spot so that other drivers are aware) and forgot my hazards turned on. One hour later, one of my co workers told me that I had forgotten them on, so I went to switch them off. At the end of the day, I get into my car, try to turn it on, and the battery was DEAD (AGAIN)!:mad.:

This IS NOT NORMAL. I'm going to schedule a service appointment and see what they say.

I'm just curious to know if any of you had similar experiences with your FX's.

Thanks

yeah don't worry this happened to me to! when i took it to the dealer they had to put a new battery in. they say it mostly happens with Fx models and Ex models battery should be change every year in dealer,, or buy a $300 Gell battery! :)

Did they end up charging you for the new battery or did they cover it ?? I haven't had any problems with mine either. Only thing i noticed is my windows ( mainly front ) seem to go up slower than usual.

I've been having the same issue with my driver's side window going up AND down very SLOWLY! I would think it would probably have to do with the window motor.

And I do agree that it shouldn't be changed EVERY YEAR.....WTF?!?!?!?:eek.: This is not a cheap vehicle to have the battery replaced every year! Otherwise, if anything, they should pay for that "Gell" battery themselves!

My windows rolled up slower too but its not because of the battery or the window motor. If you have tint in the front windows the tint slows the window down after a while, my dealer sprayed something along the window rails and the window rolled up and down really fast again

Hmmmm, i guess it makes sense. I'll have to look into that. Really don't feel like going to the dealer just for that. But I miss the quick window roll up .. lol

they did not charge me hell nooo lol, but they say that the batteries that are in the EX and the FX they are not that good... and that we should change them to gel battery but hey i still have the OEM battery that's what my warranty is for!

its not the motor guys don't worry im like 100% sure lol,, just a little lubricate on all for windows you guys are set... just make sure the dealer lubricates it for you guys :)

I've never had any battery problems myself either. If I did, the dealer will just replace it under warranty anyways.

As for the windows issue, I had my windows tinted and my windows don't roll up slow. They operate the same way they always have since I bought the FX which is pretty quick. It may have something to do with the type of tint your installer put on the windows. My installer used high quality 3M tint. If your installer used cheap tint, that may be your issue there. After all different brands of tint have different quality.

Hey guys

Bring this thread back up. :) New owner here. 33k miles on the FX50s and my wife wanted to play with it, in the garage. She turned it on, but didn't start it and played with the seat, nav, computer, just about everything. Killed the battery. :D

My question is, if I change the battery, do I have to take it to the dealership for a computer / ecu reset? And I am guessing there will be at least a 1hour charge for this?? (such a rip off)

Your battery is bad....will charge up but not hold charge for a long time. dealer will give you a new battery for free...got mine replaced for free a few months ago...they just told me without asking! :)

That's nice. If not go to Costco, get one and replace yourself. Have not heard about resetting the ecu afte battery change.

I currently have a '10 FX35 and have had no battery problems. Prior to the FX i had a '05 G35 Coupe for five years with the original Infiniti battery that worked great when I got rid of it. Any dealer telling you that you need a new battery yearly is an idiot and a thief.

No ECU reset is required after a battery install. The ECU might reset itself if the battery is out for too long. The only thing this does is erase your preset radio stations and trip counters.

My experience is that my FX battery goes out almost every three years (a little less than three years). I'm on my third battery since 04 and just switched over to an Optima yellow top to handle my extra stereo gear.

Instead of starting a new thread on my issue, I'm piggy backing on this thread....

I'm now having very similar problems as Guanche01 even after the dealer replaced with a new Infiniti battery probably 4 months ago.

So here is my story.

1. Early 2011, my friend was in my car playing around with the windows up and down, lights, etc for about 30 min. Then tried to turn on car, dead.
2. Mid 2011, Infiniti dealer (without me mentioning anything regarding batter) replaced the battery for free said that the battery didn't pass one of the several tests that the dealership performs every time I bring my car during an oil change. I guess it's part of the multi point inspection. Went in for an oil change, came out with an oil change and a new battery.
3. Late 2011, had my windows tinted. Guy was rolling windows up and down for probably 1 hour. Car was completely dead.
4. Yesterday, hadn't turned the car on for almost 2 days and didn't start....wierd because didn't do anything. And what makes it more weird is I've left the car alone for 5 days before about a month ago and it started fine right after.

I realize there are a lot of things that use the battery.....the welcome lighting as you approach/leave the vehicle in the mirrors, the door sills, etc.....but I've known cars where the lights have been left on for multiple hours and no issues. I was concerned maybe my sub in the back is draining from the new battery, but I highly doubt it because it was several days I left the car when I went on that bachelor party trip and no issues then.

Any ideas? I heard the computer on startup checks the battery level and if it's basically not completely full, it will stop the crank, while other cars would probably crank and turn on fine. Yeah the battery under the hood looks like it has a bazillion things connected to it, but still.....makes me want to maybe get an almightily aftermarket battery, but why should I need to. maybe alternator? maybe other issues?

Guanche01, what did the dealer do? After your new battery, did you do a test to see if now you can go hours with blinkers? Any other suggestions from anybody? I'm not sure how to go from here....I think it's ridiculous for me to carry jumper cables or a battery charger for those just in case scenarious.

Something is draining it Jonas. I leave my car sitting outside in the snow for 5-6 weeks without starting it while I am on holidays each winter.
It starts up first crank with no issues.

Very strange, only things I can think of:
1) car needs a higher output alternator.
2) car needs a bigger capacity battery.
3) too much parasitic drain when the car is turned off.

If nothing aftermarket is draining the battery, this is just not right and hopefully a recall is made..
