I was on Rt10 in East Hanover NJ, at the Ramada Bar for a coworker's going away party from 6-9. When I came out and pushed the button, I noticed that it was unlocked... weird, then my door wasn't opening. So I looked down and saw this:

It was $2,100 worth of damage, it would have been much cheaper if they busted my window. I guess I was dumb in leaving my messenger bag on the passenger seat. Good thing they didn't get to my 2 work laptops inside. That would have been disaster.

I want to get the dealer installed shock sensor, does anyone know if these shock sensors detect both window and body impact?

wth who tried to break in like that? sabretooth??? or the alien from super 8?
wow thankfully dude failed.
as far as shock sensors, i know jcwhitney.com sells them or i think radioshack but probably not the best, but thats what i know of that only.

This is now a popular method. The F250 and F350 Ford trucks can be opened by this method too. They are punching a hole with a screw driver and engaging the locking mech from the inside of the door. It is not a load and fast. They have to have some body shop knowledge to know where the spot is on different cars. Sorry for your loss.

Seriously, looked like they used a can opener. Stupid thief failed in life and now can't even break into a car.

That sux. As a NewYorker, never leave bags/cellphones/gps/mp3/ipod/coins/etc exposed. It's an invite to headaches. Seeing your photos, theives are using a tin can openers?

Sad case, good luck on the repairs.

Yea, they had to replace my door. The shop did a great job.

I'm in the middle of trying to get my $500 deductible back from the hotel. I'll let you know if I get anywhere.

Anyone have info about the dealer installed shock sensors?

LOL, I was parked in the last spot next to a bunch of trees to not get door dings. And it was dark there when I got to my car.

I now know it's better to get door dings than give good cover for the thief.

Get tints on your windshield and front windows.. Why did the damages cost so much? Dont they have to replace the front foor panel, paint it + labor then add the old door components onto it.. About half the price you mentioned

Sorry to hear about that. I guess they don't know about the auto window down feature on the Fx. As for the sensor, it can be set to whatever sensitivity you want from a strong knock on the windshield to an earthquake. I recall a thread about it here as well.

I would tint out everything if I could, NJ only allow tints in the back 3 windows. Can't pass inspection with full tint, and cops give tickets when they see it.

That's pretty much all they did, maybe it was the labor of blending from front 1/4 panel and the back door? I know they only use OEM parts, maybe that added to the cost too. I didn't really care about the price as long as they did a good job, I was only responsible for my $500 deductible.

;). I always park as close to the building as I cam and try to park next to a curb so I can hug the curb and give the person next to me plenty of room

That was my intention, but curb parking is tough to find sometimes. In this case, I thought tree parking was the next best thing.

Yea, I think the thief failed at auto theft 101.

If you know the link please share, I've been trying to find a post about the factory impact sensor. But thanks for the info, I think I'm going to do get that installed this week.

Exact same thing happened to me. But in my case the windows rolled down and thief got away with my stuff.

That sucks, it's a terrible feeling to get to your car and it's been broken into.

It's not like I was in a bad area either, but the cops told me it happens up and down Rt10 strip malls.

Sounds like you got a smarter thief than me, but that's a bad thing in this instance.

That sucks man!

Make sure the bodyshop is respraying the right type of paint. Their suppose to be respraying the ScratchShield Clear that the 09's have back on. It requires a special order from Glassurit(I think that's how you spell it) or PPG and Dupont.

+1 ^^^ BASF "Glasurit" Use it every day.

Sux man. Very sorry to see such BS, I hate thieving trash. You can always tell the body shop you bring it to. They will have their adjuster deal with your insurance company and revise the estimate. Happens all the time.

Sorry no link handy, but I do recall that you can dial in the sensitivity. read the install instructions a while ago and its ~3 wires to the bcm in the passenger kick panel; pretty easy and straight forward.

there's just something about NJ, my brother's car was stolen there (96 civic hatchback) and his other car was broken into (00 acura rsx).
im sorry about what happned...
