Yet another thread about custom blacked-out headlights.
Mods feel free to merge into another thread if you like.

I have a local shop working on this project for me. We're still unclear as to what the end result will look like, lots of options to choose from.

For now, I got the FX-R clear lens + CCFLs halo's behind the shrouds (thank you turbocad)

Let me know what you think.
Next will be a satin blackout and who knows what else.

Work in progress pics:

Just me.... I don't see a purpose of having the CCF halo behind the shroud. I would prefer Marus LED rings much more. Let see some pic of the clear lense cutoff.

Will update w/ more pics as the project progresses..

Once they're installed, I'll snap some cut-off pics.

Believe me I know what you mean, the guy working on them for me just put them in there as a test-fit. I told him from the get-go that I'm against halos altogether. I think it's something that should be left to the cars they belong on - but that's not to say that they look pretty slick when done nicely.

At this point I'm still undecided, I may tell him to pull the CCFLs off, I may leave them on and disconnect them the day after installing the lights - who knows..

It's hard to tell, but does it actually look like a halo from a distance or is the projector just lit up behind it?

Well it looks like a halo because the projector reflects the CCFLs...
I'm gonna get my guy to do a quick video and post it up. I'm worried that it'll look weird depending the angle you're looking at it.

But the thing is, when the projector is on - you're not really gonna see much of the CCFL anyways.. this is more/less for DRL purposes..

So here's a quick update for everyone. After the previous pics were taken - the fella that's doing this job for me proceeded to do the blackout of the reflectors. All went well until it was time to peel the masking tape off, at which point the tape took some chrome off with it. Major bummer..

Being the great guy that he is, he offered to keep the botched reflectors and go out and buy a new pair out of his own pocket. It's him about a month to locate them (but that's understandable as he wanted the reflectors only and not entire housings, and this is a side-project thing for him anyways, he's really busy with his day job). But now we're back on track!

We have a new set of reflectors, and he's doing them 1-by-1 now to ensure the tape is on them as little as possible.

Some photos off the first one below, I think he did a great job - let me know what you guys think.

They look great! Glad you decided to keep the rings chrome for the contrast. FXs' look so much better with darkened headlights. Need some photos of them on the vehicle now.

Install date is set for 1st weekend in May. Frankly, I can't wait to see what they'll look like on the car too.

It will be a huge difference in looks. When I swapped to sport headlights, the difference was amazing. The black and chrome looks great, ever think about doing Marek's LED angel eyes?

The chrome ring with black shroud look really nice. I had the same problem with chrome peel off with tape on the ring as well. The chrome is very very light on them. Plus the age of it makes really easy to peel. Do you know your guy bought the shroud/refelctor brand spanky new or just newer used one.

I was contemplating it, but then decided against them. I didn't even really ask for the Halo's I'm getting. It was just a suggestion that I replied "yeah, why not" to. I personally feel that halos belong on bimmers, and audi strips belong on audi's (which kind of doesn't make sense anymore as Range Rovers have led halos an Benz's/Volvos and a bunch of other cars have LED strips stock now) but you get what I mean. If the halos are too obtrusive (even being recessed as they are), I'll disconnect them. I don't them to look like eBay lights.

As far as I know, they were used. Seems like this time around he's having much better luck with them. He's expecting to finish the 2nd one by tomorrow. Once I get some photos of that one, I'll be at peace with it, and then the anxiousness of installing them starts!

Finally got my headlights on.. Very happy with the results. Pics below!(my apologies for the close-range cut-offs.. I'll snap some longer distance ones in a darker environment tonight)

Oh and yes, I know my car needs a wash.
