Just had my first road trip in my 2012 FX35. It was 3 hours each way and a fantastic way to get acquainted with this fantastic automobile. I had a real blast playing with the cruise control functions. I was following my father-in-law who was driving a U-Haul truck and it paced him perfectly with no real aggressive reactions. The lane departure was quite a trip as well, as I am quite cautious when I pass cars on the left, I seem to get a warning for giving them too much space and encroaching on the shoulder.

My question is though, with all of these helpers on board, will it get annoying or is it a welcomed passenger in the car? Personally, I would never deactivate a safety feature in an aircraft even if it was more nuisance than saviour, so my reaction seems to lean that way with the FX but I am curious as to what you guys are doing with all of these features. Traction, LDW, IBS, etc...are ya using em?

VDC always off unless I'm using the laser cruise. My lane departure beeps constantly while passing semi's because I pass on the line. I've just tuned it out over the years. Same thing with my radar detector, I only really hear it if it's a KA.

I have lane departure turned off by default. I only activate it when I go on long road trips.

When I get in my FX the first three thinga I do are: put the seatbelt on, turn the radio on, and turn the VDC off. I wish it was off by default.

Doesn't your radio stay on? The radio and climate control in 2nd gens are back where I left them when I turn the car back on. Also, VDC you may be able to by default turn it off in 2nd gen by holding it down for at least 4 sec (this applies to the FCW and LDW and possibly some other buttons like DCA, VDC, etc, but haven't tried all of them). Not sure if same applies to 1st gen.

I always turn the radio off when I pull into the driveway. It would stay on if I didn't do that.

VDC in the first gen is a push-button toggle switch. One click is on and another is off. I know it definitely doesn't stay off through a power cycle but I don't know about the trick you described. I'll try it tomorrow.

I have my LDW set to off. I don't care for the sound. When I use cruise, I use manual cruise as I like to maintain my speed without ever slowing down due to traffic.

Haha just normal driving...no cruise.

i use the features fairly often. The cruise is good for long trips of course. Gives you one less thing to do kind of. The lane departure can get annoying at times. If it is raining I always turn it off. It tends to pick up the lines that the car in front leaves from their tires so you deal with those plus the actual lines so it seems to be going off non stop...at least for me

I thought VDC off for everyday driving was a bad thing?

I leave my LWDS, VDC on at all times. I have seen the VDC hard in action on heavy icy road back in NY. I hardly use the ICC these days though though it really comes in handy on long drives.
