Advice on gas

My dad and i buy cars on the side fix em up and sell them for profit. Recenlty we bought a 2001 jeep cherokee for parts and parting it out little by little. Yesterday i noticed it had almost a full tank of gas! I figured its probably regular possibly midgrade. Doubt the previous owner put premium. Anyone say no to transferring that gas to my 05 fx35 and why? Id love a full tank of gas for free considering im a not so well off college student! Lol btw the car has been sittin in my garage for about 3 months or so. For the past 2 years or so ive been putting only premium (93) but before that the fx has seen regular.

I have filled mines up with regular a couple times without any issue. Definitely it will not pickup like with premium. Premium is recommended for better performance. It needs at least an 87 octane.

I'd be more concerned about the age and condition of the fuel than the octane grade. If you bought it as a parts car, you make it sound like a possible junker or wreck. Old gas from a damaged car or fuel system (if that's the case) sounds more of an potential issue than putting 87 in your premium FX.
If you're confident with the gas quality regardless of grade, I'd use it. Of course, I'd prefer to use it in a different car than my FX.

The car has not been running for about 5 months or so. Not sure if its that old enough for it to go bad. The car was a daily driven car before we bought it and decided to part it out. I started it a few times yest all seemed well so not really sure what to make of the quality of the gas

How long would you guys consider it being sitting too long and the gas may possibly be stale?

Gas quality diminishes over time and there isn't a straight black and white expiration date. A few-several months is generally spoken about as when it does go stale. On cars that I have stored for a while or just driven very in frequently, I've used a fuel stabilizer additive (Stabil). There have been times when I have forgotten or not driven as soon as I intended and I have not had a real problem with gas even year(s) old. I would not suggest this at all. And anytime I did run old gas, I babied the heck out of my driving style until I could replenish with good fresh fuel.
If I were you, I would use that fuel somewhere - likely in the least favored vehicle in the fleet. (or even a lawnmower)

If you were close, I wouldn't kind to line up to receive a ration for my lawnmower. ;-)

I actually just reclaimed 34 gallons of gas that was sitting for two winters.
I did not use my boat last year so it has been sitting for 2 winters. I had gas in it, but I also had gas stabilizers in it. I did not want to chance leaving it in and possibly getting stranded 30 miles offshore. So I siphoned it all out. I got 34 gallons out of it. It holds over 100 gallons.
I have been using it in my daily runaround truck, my 2008 GMC Z71. The 5.3L is running fine, it is built to run on flex fuel.

im back and forth on putting the gas in the fx but i rather not run into any problems over a full tank of gas. im not even sure what type of issues could occur

I wouldn't. Your talking about maybe like a 50 dollar savings, meanwhile you run the risk of killing thousands in parts if something did get hurt.

Even here on my coast, in canada a full tank of premium, is only like 140 bucks.

It sucks, yeah, but you pay to play.

I'm friends with the CEO of Ashland oil aka valvoline. I asked about the different grades of gas and what he runs and shocking he stated he runs the cheap stuff in everything he owns! He drives a new escalade and his opinion is that he doesn't run his cars hard and unless you do they won't ping and the only difference is the octane. Also shocking was when I asked him which stations had better gas, ie shell, super America, marathon etc. he said its all the same and comes from the same refinery! Said the only thing to look out for was stations with older tanks, as far as using the old gas out of the junker I would not use it as the corn juice in the new gas has a very short shelf life. Also the corn juice attracts water and as we all know, water and gas don't mix well! Sorry to ramble on, I just wanted to share the info as I was rather shocked at his answers in regards to gasoline.

i would never put regular in my fx. I only put in silver and only bp gas. On another note what gas stations do you guys go to? i see alot of people go to bp. Also i see some people dont care and go to other bootleg places. Am i just crazy for only going to bp or is it the best for the fx?
