A few questions on Fx

Hi guys/gals,
Newbie here, hope you folks would take it easy on me if I asked silly questions!! My name is Kin, and I am from Manchester, England.
I am looking to change my car in next couple months, and I am seriously looking to buy FX, I think it looks great. And you don't see it every day, unlike those usual German SUVs
I am interested in either the FX30d(diesel) or Fx50s.
I've already did some searches on here, it seems most get around 12-13mpg around city! But I believe your US gallon is less than our imperial gallon, does that mean I might get the equivalent of around 15mpg here? I have to ask this question because the fuel prices here is extortionate!! It would cost nearly £125 to fill up, I only travel 12 miles a day to work in city traffic.
And my next question is does the standard exhaust sounds great or just quiet? If you know what I mean?

thanks in advance!

May be I should rephrase my question, forget fuel consumptions.

Just need to know if the standard FX50S exhaust sounded any good, like you could hear a AMG or Lexus ISF, even at normal acceleration, or is it quiet like a Merc S500?

Ah,, cheers!
my local dealer did not have the FX50 in stock, so I cannot test drive it, nor can I hear the noise. Afterall, half the fun of owning a V8 is the sound it makes, right? :smile (2):

Although they have told me they may have some coming in stock in next couple of weeks.

Infiniti has a great exhaust note stock. I think they're a bit more tame than they were a few years back. but the 50S should be pleasing to the ear.

I too have never heard an FX50S in person. No dealership ever has any in stock. They really don't sell well here in the US and it's such a shame because they really are such beautiful powerful cars! I keep doing searches on cars.com to see what inventory is out there and there are only something like 54 for sale all over the United States. That's crazy!

Just the opposite for me. I'd be more interested in hearing and test driving the diesel. I'd guess that it is quiet (and maybe a bit boring) like the competition's diesel versions.
V8 growl is tough to choose against.

Have you not driven any diesel powered german SUVs before? You could hear slight diesel clattering early morning start, once its warmed up, its usually very quiet, you certainly would not know its a diesel when you're driving it. Some diesel powered cars sounded even nice when you're accelerating!!

The main advantage with diesel is its torque(grunt!) Mid-range acceleration will give half decent V8 a run for its money, might even beat them too, and of course better fuel economy...

I've driven and wasn't impressed with diesel Touareg or diesel ML350. Heard a very slight diesel sound and felt no aspects of performance that stuck out as good or bad. I also test drove the Cayenne diesel (V6) back to back with the Cayenne gas V8. Here I heard zero diesel sound, but felt the obvious performance difference in the gas V8.
I don't find any excitement out of any diesel or hybrid SUV's. Not yet at least. (BTW, diesel trucks= yes, diesel compacts= yes, electric SUV= yes!)
And that's not to say I wouldn't buy one. I wouldn't likely buy any mentioned above, but I would be interested in the diesel FX. I suspect if you pulled the "d" off the back that no one would know it's a diesel.

With my FX50S I cant even hear the exhaust sound inside the car. Outside it is very subdued as well. I liked the exhaust note much better in my 2003 FX35. The acceleration is brilliant! I have seen 0 - 60 MPH times near the 5.0 second mark although I have never taken mine to the drag strip. This 50S is the 5th Infiniti I have owned and the nicest car I have ever owned. I am almost 65 so I have had a lot of cars in my life! In my professional life as a Mechanical Engineer I have been around a lot of engines (always worked for a engine OEM, not dealer or distributors, other than 4 years at Harley Davidson in the R+D department in the late 70's). Go for the 50S, you wont regret it! It's V-8 is near perfect!
Cheers!

Ah! I'm not sure I wanted a silent FX50S, I wanted to hear the exhaust when I drive. I could well believe you might like the sound of FX35 or later FX37, I believe its the same engine used in 370Z or is it Fairlady you guys called? I could always hear the exhaust note from 370Z, even in Utube.

Although I personally think the deeper growl or bass note of the V8 is more suited to FX than raspy sporty exhaust note to the FX35/FX37. All IMO of course.

Guys, took a test drive in the Sebastian Vettel today, as the dealer ship did not have the standard 5.0S for me to test drive, the exhaust note was awesome!!

Should have brought me camera and took pics. They have given me a great deal on a white FX50S, which they have in another dealership, problem is I don't like white! But I am seriously considering to accept the colour, I will be letting them know my decision over the weekend

Re: exhaust modding, they said they will still honour all warranty work, so thats all good!!
