370z/G37 ARK test pipes on a FX35?

Hey, guys. I was looking into doing some mods on my 09 FX35. I had stopped by Osiris Uprev here in Austin and one of the guys mentioned going with an Ark Performance 370z/G37 test pipe for more gains. Has anyone tried this? It's currently listed on their website for $524. I was thinking of trying it with the stock exhaust and then doing a tune along with some post MAF silicone pipes and drop in K&N filters. Any comments or advice is welcome. Thanks.

370/g37 test pipes should bolt right up to your v6 FX (they dont on the FX50 - flanges different on header -> cat) $524 seems fit for a brand new set of resonated test pipes like th eons you linked. I have a asset of GTM Resonated Test Pipes from the g37/370z on my FX50 and they are great quality (though I had to cut them up a bit to fit correctly - again I think this is only because I have the 50 - they should bolt right in v6 to v6)
the GTM RTP are $360 from their website.

As for the tune, I would wait until you something more than test pipes and K&N filters. You're going to end up spending $500ish for test pipes + install + $600(?) for a tune to get 10ish horsepower / 10ish tq (and yes, an adjusted power band etc etc) which is not enough to "feel" (though the adjusted power band may feel different/better) so maybe think before spending $1k + for 10 hp. If you're just looking for sound, throw a different muffler on that you can get for much less than $1k and leave it at that.

The 370z guys usually get around about 25hp out of good intakes (like Stillen Gen3 for them), test pipes, and a good cat back exhaust + Tune. 25 horsepower on our fx is going to do less than on a 370z. I am not sure it is "worth it" to spend all that money for 20 hp. I made that mistake on my FX35 back in the day.

However, if you insist, go for it. Ark are a reputable brand. The stock intake is generally satisfactory since it already takes air from the grill. A 'better' filter like you mentioned would help with flow. the test pipes, though resonated, will help with HP but you will lose some low end tq even if they tune it to smooth out the power band, the gains will be high in the RPM range and you may "feel" slower off the line because of the way they tune it. The sound from RTP will add some grumble tone and shouldn't add much drone if they are resonated but I have not heard the ARK RTP in person with a stock exhaust...

WoW jbaker1121. Your comments speak volumes. You're right on the money. I just got off the phone with the Ark tech and he stated that their test-pipe would fit and one may gain about 17hp with it, but one really wouldn't feel the difference given that it's an SUV and not a Z. In addition, he mentioned one would have to deal with a much louder exhaust and emissions. The tune and dyno by Uprev alone is $600. He did say that best thing to go with would just be the exhaust system. Theirs is $1424 :-/

Athlon, plz share your experince once u install it, I install the invidia HFC and then the test pipe but did not like how they sounded with the ARK. my test pipe was not resonated and it drone too much. thinking to cut the Invidia HFC and remove the catalyst from inside to have similar act as resonated test pipe, but if ARK or equivelent test pipe is better ll go for it :)...

Glad I can help. Like I said, I've dealt with the same thing on both cars so have experienced it. (Although some people don't listen and do things anyway, then complain about it later)
Good luck with whichever you choose!

Uprev is pressing me on getting this Ark test pipe. lol When would a tune be worth it? Is it only worth getting a tune for boosted applications?

Honestly bro I would save up for the ARK cbe plus test pipes if you want and then an UpRev tune. I have the CBE and it's my favorite mod on my ride. Next im going to do test pipes or HFC's then a tune after that.

So... I called Lerry over at Ark Performance. He stated that the resonated Ark test-pipe for the 370z/G37 wouldn't fit on the FX35. So I ended up ordering the exhaust instead. Also found out some info about correcting the camber problem with lowering our FXs. He was able to get his issue resolved by having a custom control arms made...for a couple grand. :-/

Maybe since the ARK test pipe has the branch muffler that sticks off the side. I'm still surprised it wouldn't fit a RWD FX though since the transmission should be the same as an auto G/Z. I can understand it not fitting an AWD due to the transfer case. There are plenty of other options for RTP's that incorporate the resonator onto the pipe itself so there should be no clearance issues.

didn't think of the branching part. Makes sense.

Their site says only fits manual vehicles. Should look into ART pipes from Motordyne. Ark seems to make similar stuff to them anyway.

Motordyne does not fit the AWD but I think it does for the RWD, remember Lerry mentioned it on one of his topics

With test pipes, isn't your exhaust gas unfiltered.. Resulting in possible high intake of carbon monoxide in your body?

Carbon monoxide doesn't really change by taking cats off. People don't put test pipes on before committing suicide...but going cat less does increase other toxic fumes though. You're still not likely to be impacted as they don't enter the car much, but not great for environment.

You can custom fit most exhausts from G or Z onto FX and plenty of people have. You're not picking up that much power from any exhaust by itself though. Maybe with test pipes and tune, but not exhaust alone. And no exhaust gives significantly different gains than another. This one is beautiful, but the pipe routing pretty much is the same as Stillen or Invidia

That's not on a stock car and even then, I'd be that's an inflated manufacturer number. Exhausts don't pick up much power on our cars. You gain more from high flow cats or test pipes. For an exhaust, just get the one that looks the best and sounds the best to you.
