350z roadster

Thinking of trading in for a 350z roadster. Never use the back seat. No kids just a wife. She has a 4 door car if we need one.
I'm really frustrated with my alternator/battery issues 3rd alt in 12 months and 3rd battery. And looking ir a lower payment. (in the process of paying off a business right now) after that I may get a fx45 Down the road.

Well, I'm not married and have no kids either. I had a 2004 350Zr and let me tell you, it was horrible in the winter (obviously) and the trunk could barely fit a 24 pack of soda. The interior is not as not nice compared to the FX and honestly, the fun to drive factor is about the same. I actually get more kicks driving the FX because its an crossover/suv and how it out-handles a lot of cars. Sorry you are having issues with your alternator still. Not trying to persuade you out of a 350Zr, but that was just a tidbit of my experience with it. Good luck with your decision!

well i live in mississippi easy winters here. I have a convertible before and i miss it. I also miss a manual transmission. Dont get me wrong i love the FX, but it is too much money for me right now-bad decision buying it when i did-but im young and mistakes happen :)
it holds golf clubs-that is about the biggest thing i transport-along with paintball gear

I have never had the benefit of having a weekend car either just 1 for me

Do you really think a 350Zr will be cheaper payment wise? I don't know, seems like it will be about the same. I can tell you one thing a roadster won't really hold golf clubs. Maybe the small holders, but if you have a full size holder, it will be very tight.

I researched the golf clubs-trust me. a used 350z for about 15k vs my 585 month payments should be 100-200 cheaper per month. Im looking at low mileage 40-50k 2004/2005s my fx has 150k+ already

Yeah. I was upside down and my last car which was a mechanical nightmare. Spent more $$ having it fixed than driving it (Lincoln Ls v8). Like I said bad purchase at the time-I have no complaints on fx except alternator :-(

Didn't put any down payment either back then. Didn't get it new, main problem was loan status on previous car

I had an '03 350z (coupe-Performance Pkg) back in '04 when I was living in DC... Good thing you have mild winters in Miss, as I've had to walk home from the office on a few occasions. Just a few observations from my perspective from when I owned it:
1. Interior fit and finish: It wasn't bad, but coming from an Acura TL, it left a lot to be desired.
2. Storage: Good thing that you're only hauling clubs. The trunk (with the suspension-brace contraption actually coming up into the vehicle) left little room for luggage. I could usually unfold my garment bag and slide it right underneath the brace, and have room for my laptop, a backpack, and two other small bags if necessary.
3. More on storage: Since there's no dedicated glovebox, you will have a little storage cubby behind the passenger's seat for things like manuals, registration, etc. NOTE: If storing your registration there (rather than in the console), and you get pulled over.... BE SURE TO LET THE OFFICER KNOW THAT YOUR REGISTRATION/INSURANCE INFO IS IN THAT CUBBY. I almost learned that the hard way.
4. Maint. Issues: Tire feathering issue with '03s due to camber (I knew of a few with that prob.); went through brake rotors insanely quick (probably due to my driving style then, and DC traffic); Window regulators needed to be replaced at 16K mi.
5. Is it fun to drive? HELL YEAH!

So sorry for the long post, but what I'm saying is that knowing the vehicle's triumphs and shortcomings, if you're comfortable with it (mentally, emotionally, & financially) and it's the car that you really want (and not just a temporary fix to a separate issue), then go for it, enjoy it, and post pics!

I will stay on here either way. Im looking at 04/05 is the feathering a issue fixed with that year? I also am 15 miles away from a truck I can use at any time :-)

I am with Kruelhouse on this. My 05 was a blast to drive everyday as a dd. problems i had was replacing the window actuator (dealership did it for free), passenger seat controls replacement, (cost me $800 at stealership back when i didn't know much about cars) and poor quality Bose audio (cd player would freeze in cold weather and sub would go off and on on its own). The trunk is small but i never had to transport anything big. i loved the brick leather seats on mine and the rest was just plastic. Also, tire rotation is impossible since front and rear are different. All being said, if you're getting one with the HR motor, and if you will get some financial relief, I say go for it. There's always some compromise to be made with every vehicle so I am sure you will adapt to your new ride quickly. GL.

Some never fixed the feather issue and just deal with it.

So the last car was a nightmare, ur fx is having some issues. I dont know what to tell you, maybe its a string a bad luck or maybe its your mechanic.

Thanks for the feedback! I personally love them with top up and down-I dont care for the hard tops or the 370 but it is all personal opinion.
The mechanic is me-alternator swap and battery swap is pretty easy. We can not locate any drain on battery and alternator is charging-i have had the battery tested twice and they say it is good and will hold a charge-I;m not sure what to try next

I have a good connection for tires for pretty cheap as well, i hope a 350 z will be as good as fx lowered with coilovers on tires-that may be wishful thinking
