The other day as I was walking out of a local restaurant I saw an unusual little sports coupe parked in the parking lot amongst a bunch of other cars. I didn't recognized the model of the car but I knew it was an Alfa Romeo based on the emblem. Since Alfa Romeos haven't been widely imported in the US, it didnt really peak too much interest in me. To me it looked like a cool little coupe with a very unique style.

However, later on that night I decided to look the car up. To my amazement I found out it was an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione!! Holy crap I just saw a $240,000 car parked liked a civic without valet or protection!! The owner must have been either mentally damaged in the head or so filty rich to not give a second thought about it. To add to my amazement I found out that only 86 out of the total 500 that Alfa Romero produced actually made it into the US.

After reviewing the specs of this car it got me thinking, for 1/4 million, would I really want one of these at that particular price tag? For the same performance or better, better interior (The interior to me didn't look like one of a 1/4 million car), more public familiarity, and less money, wouldn't a Porsche 997T/GT2/GT3, Ferrari F430, Maserati Granturismo S, or something similar be a better buy? Like most of you I consider myself to have more automobile knowledge in my head than the average Joe but damn even I missed this one. I understand the whole arguement of well a real car guy would appreciate it, but honestly I wasnt too impressed.

I think this one goes into the Exclusivity of owning this car....Extremely limited production and impossible to buy. ONLY 500 BUILT! AND Alpha had to hand select you to own this car...so they could discriminate against whoever they wished.

"Alfa took 1200 orders in 48 hours, then weeded out all but what the Alfa design chief described as "proper people" - collectors, friends, not speculators."

"To sum up: In the 8c, Alpha has produced right out of the box, one of the finest sports cars ever built." - Automobile Mag Jan 2008

Love the car, Alfa's are so damn sexy. But for $250K I'm going to have to go with its fellow country mate, the F430.

In Addison off of Belt Line. This was last Friday night. A buddy of mine wanted to get some gyro at Selim's Doner House. Unfortunately they were closed for some reason so we started walking the strip looking for something else to eat. The C8 was parked in an adjacent parking lot in front of May's Dragon. At first we didn't even see it, we were too busy looking at the SL65 parked near it. My friend, who knows nothing about cars, asked me what that red sports car was and that's when I noticed it sitting there.

*Edit*

After I realized what it was it made me wonder who the hell in town was able to get it let alone drive it around. So..... yes there's one around the DFW area so look out for it!!

Just finished watching the TG episode where Clarkson test drove it. He said it drives terribly, has wooden steering feel, and has a poorly tuned suspension. Plus the build quality is suspect. BUT he said it's probably the best looking car in history and it sounds phenomenal. And despite its shortcomings he would still buy one because it is a "work of art." He's such an Italian car fanboy.
