2005 leather crack

Hi. Recently i noticed two cracks on the side of my 05 FX (Black Leather). So i did some research and found that its a common problem.

I went to infiniti dealership and found that the seats are covered only under your default manufacturers warranty. I am not really very tech savvy, so carry a extended warranty. Well, i found out my 3K so called manufacturers extended warranty is not applicable to soft parts of the vehicle like Leather. Of course as always, when i bought the warranty, i was told every thing is covered bumper to bumper.

So, i need help from IS. What are my options to fix the issue, before it gets worse. Is their any kind a patch work i can do? I want to keep my expenses to minimal. Can you cover the crack with a peace of vinyl or leather ?

Please advice.

I have a couple of tears there too. I've tried patching it, but it won't hold. I had a leather repair shop look at it and they said patching won't hold and the vinyl/leather will need to be replaced. I still haven't the time to do the repair yet. I just don't look at it when I get into the FX or I'll start crying.

I wonder how can a make like Infiniti, just neglect such issues. Brake squeak, dash board bubbling, leather cracking, what not... Problems you probably wont encounter with brands like KIA.

Yes, i am going to call customer services on Monday, but i doubt if that's going to help. I have had experiences in the past where they couldn't or wouldn't help.

How about the '3M Di-NOC Carbon Fiber Vinyl'. Can we try to cover the side of the seats with this one?

The leather repair kit did not hold and ripped back open. I had my driver side replaced at an upholstery shop. Was $100-$175.

Unfortunately the only way is to have an upholstery shop repair it. More than likely they will replace that panel in the seat. Several members have had it done and it costs 100-400 depending on the shop and how many panels are replaced.

I went through the same thing. In fact the Infiniti of Clear Lake service advisor refused to call Infiniti USA to ask for a goodwill repair. I specifically asked him to do so and he said that the seat bottom costs way too much and that they would not cover such an expensive item as a goodwill repair on such an old vehicle (04 FX45 and I asked in 2010 with under 70K miles). I told him it would be worth it just to ask, even if they covered it partially; he inisisted that it would be a waste of his time (the same time he spent talking to me about it not being a good idea could have ben used to call them).

I've had a quarter inch crack in the side of my driver's seat and put some of the leather/vinyl repair stuff of it it about 6 months ago. I thought it worked well, but it cracked thru eventually. I'm satisfied with it considering cost and ease - just have to repair it again. It's just a small crack and my biggest concern is it spreading.

I have this same issue with my 05 fx35. I have 2 small cracks on the front part of the driver seat and also noticed that the seat part of the leather where it connects with the back is coming unstitched. I got a quote from infiniti dealer that subs out this service at 150 total for the repairs....you think this is worth it or is a good price?

Sounds fair to me. You can also check out your local upholstery shops.

Same here, there's an inch long rip on the side of my driver side leather seat. I don't know how it happened, I don't carry any sharp objects inside the car.

No pic.

Our driver's seat separated at the seam on the right shoulder seam, just down a few inches from headrest. Now both lower seat bolsters, passenger and driver's have splits in them.
Had the FX at the dealership to have the dash replaced, and the service adviser told me to find an upholstery shop. Infiniti was way too expensive he said.....

+1 on the repair kits not holding. I had a professional shop do it to my driver's seat. It looked very good, and lasted for about 6 months... Now its back to all cracked, and it is actually worse, as when the repair was done, they had to cut some leather out to make it work. Anyways, I also noticed cracks on passenger side as well couple of weeks ago. I plan on just riding it out, until it is completely "done" and then swap seats for some other ones (I have seen guys do it here, Raymond put some Audi seats in his FX). I have also seen here someone (don't remember member's name), he had a shop replace the whole lower part of the seat. That looked very good... Unfortunatelly, I could not find anyone in my area to do that type of job....

Price does not seem too high, but really not worthy, as it will go back in 6 months or so...

Infiniti probably used thin low grade leather for the seat covers, I would just have an upholstery shop replace the leather seat covers with a better grade of leather that can stand up to the wear and tear of everyday use in the "butt" section if you can, to avoid having to paid someone every 6 months or so to keep repairing it.
