Hello,
I just purchased a nissan 350Z steering wheel(Carbon Fiber)and plan on installing it on my 05 FX45 W/Nav. I also purchased the illuminated steering wheel controls(all off of E-Bay). Is there ANY pointers at all that you could throw my way. I just got the FX45 a couple months ago and ANY time I attempt something I come here first. SO any and All help will be Much Appreciated.
Thank You in advance
Barry

You need an +06 clock spring in order to lit up the illuminated steering controls. There's just no way to use the 03-05 clock spring to light the controls. Once you have the +06 clock spring, you still have to power it up. Part# for the +06 clock spring, B5567-CC00E.

Take a look this link for 12V source.

When swap 07 steering wheel into mine, I also use a voltage regulator and I turn is pretty way down as I'm not sure much theses tiny LED can take. Ideally, the source should comes from something like a dash light so that it can be dim with the rest of the interior lighting. I got lazy and took the easier route by tapping into a constant 12V when the car is running with a voltage regulator instead. Love to hear how you would wire yours up.

So what's the difference in the steering wheel? The carbon fiber and the lighted controls? Is the shape of the wheel different at all? Maybe a little thicker?

Wow, that one actually looks pretty nice! Don't know if i'd pay over $1k for it, but would be nice to have!

The price is a bit hard to take. I would have bought it already if its half of the listing. :smile (2):

This is what you need (and I believe andy already has it).

Thats just a modified g35 steering wheel, they can do the exact same thing to a z steering wheel or w/e. So lighting can be like factory.

company is here:

http://www.carbonfiberelement.com/

Seen their work first hand and it's beautiful. Maybe we can get a group rate going if they have a spare core we can get in on it and each person will just send back their old core when they get their new wheel. Then that would go to the next person?

Mike, the paddle shifters not affected by what/which steering wheel you put on top of it.

Meme, I like the idea of a group buy. I have three stock steering wheels in my basement right now! Core will not be a problem! :smile (2):

Any idea how much they charge. Near $1K for one?

The steering wheel I bought was from a Z from a Falken tire exhibit. It is just a stock one with silver Carbon Fiber. I also bought some illuminated controls and the clock spring.

Dropped them a note, should hear back early in the week I assume. Doubt they work on the weekends.

It's going to be pricey, unless I'm wrong, those go for $1Kish, at least the ones the guys on the G forums get do. I can't see any CF wheel going for too much less than $800-$1K, for any car.

Okay so what you get:

-Your choice of leather/alcantara
-your choice of stitching
-Black CF top and bottom just like the picture above.

This runs $600. Making it a flat bottom is an extra $100. Adding a different colour CF changes the price only nominally.

If we can get 5 people on board with deposits sent to them, they can work on group buy pricing.

My idea is this:

If Andy is in, he can send them one of his extra steering wheels, and they can prep it for him, then when he that is done, they can send him his, and he can send in his core, then we just move down the list and each individual will receive their wheel and send in their core.

This way Andy can get a partial discount for supplying the core, and at the end of the day we get a slightly better price because Carbon Element can keep the last core and use it in the future.

List off below if you are interested for a sick custom steering wheel:
