Many here have done it for their wheels, grilles, emblems, etc and seems to be a decent option for a temporary change. Hopefully some will chime in with their experiences and links.

:good:

Hey, ima let you know that photos and youtube vidoes do not show enought detail of plastidip. Fonzie from plastidipyourcar says his stuff is smooth and etc but after reading many forums and people on here there will always be a slight texture. It wont be as smooth as paint. Its hard to notice when ur standing a few feet away but if u sit close and really look at it u can see the texture. However it is good for protection i think. Ive seen a few rock chips hit my grill and only took off some plasti dip. So 5 bucks to save a scratch is pretty nice. If ur thinking about doing it i would do it just to protect ur rims. If ur super picky u might not like it. I think its good if you cant afford to pay hundred of dollars to get something painted or if you want to see what it looks like go for it. Heres a link to my ebay garage. theres a few photos of my back emblem and grille being done. On the photos it looks really smooth but there still is a texture. Im happy with it tho.

ive heard people spray painting over the plastidip gives the spraypaint look but its hard to remove after.

The reason that a lot of people's ends up not being smooth is because they do it too close and too heavy and it's from a spray can. I'm pretty sure Fonzie and the professionals use it out of a gun to get a more even coat.

ALso, a search of 'plastidip" on here will bring up so many threads with pictures.

Ya I did that earlier and I did the grill which came out SICK will have photos in the morning, going to do the rims this weekend hopefully if I get the energy to take everything off ,,,,, but I used a spray can for the grill not sure how much guns r going to look it up 2moro

Well its smooth but u can still tell that its not spray paint smooth. Or im doing it wrong i guess. Maybe the gun fonzie uses makes it better too.

I don't think it matters if you use a gun or a can, the consistency of the plasti dip I don't think will allow a smooth painted look. It is more like an undercoating than a liquid paint if that makes sense. I did my winter wheels which are chrome M45 wheels, the center caps I simply took the emblem off then reinstalled after they dried. I'm very pleased Wih the look and the durability of the plasti dip. I will say this, I would put multiple coats and let it flash dry 15-20 minutes in between coats and finish off with 2-3 coats of the glossifier and it will look nice and last. I did mine last fall and just got them out of storage, I thought I would probably have to redo them but this stuff is holding up pretty damn good. I have even ran it through automatic car washes probably 4-6 times with no issues at all. Make sure youu prep them right and wipe with dentured alcohol to remove any grease and take your time and they will look great! Good luck!

im thinking of doing it also just dont know how it handles the winter.
So far its lasting through winter (a lot of rain) The only flaws are from rock chips but it does protect ur grill.
My gf lives in toronto and its been snowing and theres ice and its holding up well. She has her badges dipped and a few other parts.

Perfect. I just want to do my grille and badges for now. I'm still debating the rims. My buddy did like ½ his car in it. He had a Toyota 4 Runner but I was worried on our cars it might make it look cheep since it is technically a luxury SUV.

How about the door handles and rear hatch trim? I am particularly worried about mucking up the keyless entry buttons with plastidip spray? who has dealt with that?
