Chrome Grill - paintable?

Hey guys,

I was calling a few bodyshops in the area to get a quote for painting the grill. I just talked to one guy and he said that a chrome grill is not paintable. Well, it is, but the paint will not stick to it very well. Is that true? If yes, then I am SOL on a painting grill?

You have to sand off the chrome before it can be painted.

My grille is painted in black obsidian (colormatched) to the car. Yes it is paintable. I took mine to a bodyshop and they sanded it down and sprayed it. 3K miles and no chipping. Paid $100 for it to be painted.

A lot of body shops will not want to or are not knowledgable about painting on assorted surfaces. Properly prepped, the grill will hold the paint just fine. Mine is beautifully done and aside from the rock chips, holding up perfectly.

haha yeah but he told me they usually charge around that price. $50 to $100.

Hey guys i wanted to paint my grill, it has paint plus chrom underneath. What number san paper should i buy? do i wetsand ? Should i prime before painting? Also which brand do you guys recommend? for black
