So Confused on what to do!

So I come to the experts!

I just bought my 05 FX35 in January. Got a great price for it and I am know that I can make a couple thousand on it. I did make some tasteful and reversible mods on it (see my garage).

Now, I am starting to debate whether to sell her and buy an 09-11. I know I can afford to pay a little more a month than what I am paying now.

Questions:
1) Realistically, and I do not trust KBB, what do you think I can sell mine for? Its an 05, all options, Silver, Wheat Interior 62K miles, I may keep the wheels to go with the newer one, has H&R, New Shocks, new brakes all around, MediaBridge, GTSpec front Strut brace, Rear GTSepc Tie Bar brace. 6000K headlights, 6000K HD Fogs, Interior is nearly flawless (just had the dealer replace the dash pad under warranty). Exterior has some scratches all around and ZERO dents.

2) I was looking at the interior dimensions. Seems like the 09-11 is marginally smaller. Anyone had a Gen 1 then go to a Gen 2 and notice a difference one way or another? I have two child car seats that need to go in the back seat.

Thanks all!

I say if you really want the 2ng gen FX go for, when I was at the dealership I was just asking about how much they give for trade in for the first gen FX. He told me they give close to 20k due to the high demand for the 1st gen. A few months back I was at a different dealer and I saw a sign where they were asking for the 1st gen vehicles. The guy told me that a few days back a guy had gotten like 18k for an 03 FX that had over 100k miles. The first gen FX is def in high demand right now in my own opinion.

You mat not trust KBB, but that's the starting point for dealers on trade-in. Either that, or Black Book. Not many dealers will give you too much more than fair market value unless they're making a killing on the vehicle that your trading in on. With that being said- every dealer is different. It all depends on how desperate they are to sell a vehicle. Like, if it's been sitting on the lot too long, and/or they think they turn your trade-in quickly.

My company had 84 stores nationwide and they use black book, never KBB. Feb 2011 I traded in my 03 AWD w/89k and got $13,5. It sold at auction for $14,9k and then ended up on a tote the note for $18k.

For fun I asked for appraisal on my 07 and was told $20-21k trade in. It has 51k, RWD with tech package.

Hope these figs are helpful, I'm in Dallas, and am in the business.

^ Well maybe you can help me out; just out of curiosity.. is it true that most east coast dealers use NADA and black book, and most west coast dealers use KBB? I've lived on the east coast most of my life and that's what they told me. And I heard the same thing when I bought the FX here in AZ. Sorry to thread jack SilverStreak! lol

I only know for sure about Central region. We have 3 Infiniti stores in AZ and a couple stores as east ad GA & FL if you want me to inquire.

Keep your '05, because you just got it. Mod it, drive it, and enjoy the trouble free miles you will have for a few years. If anything keep driving your current car and wait a few more years until the 3G FX's come out and get a pre-owned '14 or '15 by the time your ready again.

Back in the days I used to be in the business. We always used the dealer black book. I know I would not go to the dealer. Would not be willing to loose 4k from trading it in.
It would be no question to keep it if it were an 06 +. I think I made a mistake getting an 05 just because the interior seems a little dated.
Guess I can either just get idea from a dealer on what it's worth or maybe put some feelers out there to sell it on my own. Worse case I don't get any I queries.

Thanks for the help all!

I understand what you are feeling. Then maybe to a trade in for a 06-08 then, even a 45. I had my 35 for two years and I kept thinking to myself, if I could do it again, it would be exactly what I have now. I am happy with my decision, despite all the extra money spent and the time lost from modding the 35.

I went from a 2008 to a 2012 and the cabin does feel a bit more snug. I notice the decrease in headroom the most. It's not a bad thing, just different. As for trade in value, I was a returning customer and I knew the 2013s were coming out soon so I think they were willing to give me a little more than usual. I had about 60k miles on my 2008 RWD with the sport package. They ended up giving me about $27k for it. Hope that helps.

I need to trade mine in where you did!!! my 07 only has 50K on it, with tech package is black book has it between 20-22k!

^ That seems like a REALLY good deal. Mine is an '08 with 36xxx miles and I paid $25,500 otd, last month lol
@Special K: If you find yourself bored at work today, then I would appreciate an inquiry. Thanks!

Black book is best bet. I can't say that for all stores, but looks that way for any in our group.
For AZ there is:
Infiniti of Peoria
Infiniti on Camelback
Infiniti of Scottsdale

It took 2 hours of negotiating, but apparently it was worth it. :smile (2): I wanted to see how far I could get so I also talked them into throwing in the roof cross bars for free. They wouldn't budge for anything else...

If you don't have access to the Black Book, a salesman I know at the local BMW dealership told me that the Edmunds pricing is closer to what you can expect. And they never price any vehicle as excellent condition.

Tell me about it... my Allstate damage appraisal from April

Yup, I'll bet a lot of FXs on here would be considered excellent but my local BMW dealership won't pay you for it. I'm pretty diligent (some may call it OCD) about keeping my vehicles looking as good as possible so I'd like to think it was in excellent condition. Actually, while I was waiting for the dealership to finish my paperwork on the new FX, I watched them put a window sticker on my 2008 and put it right on the lot. No cleaning needed.
