We might as well start a thread about tire damage.

Mine happened on the 4th of July on a hot and humid 100+ degree day.

This is what she looked like after giving a thorough cleaning.

A few hours later she looked like this.

Because of this. I've had punctures in the past, but this was the loudest one to date. Too Close to the sidewall so the tire was dead!

Called a bunch of tire dealers to source out my specs.. Finally found one that can order same day for a decent price. After the Chicago 10% tax and install, the deal came out to $300  Got her on the lift....then I notice a bunch of guys gathering around my wheel...

One of the guys calls me over to look at it...This is what got them all stunned..

To give it some perspective...This was almost vertical inside the tire..

And of course my concern went straight to my wheels inner barrel..

Luckily the damage wasn't too structural and the integrity was maintained and I didn't have to buy a new wheel. Forgestar FTW?
She's back to normal.

OMG, that bolt was in your tire? Physically speaking, how is that even possible? Unless it was intentionally planted upright in the road. :eek.:

No kidding. Think of how fast the bolt had to be kicked up on end and drove into your tire. Nice ride.

Lol. I read the title and thought, "we must be running out of official threads"

Holy crap!

Same thing that run through my mind. I can visualize somebody who hates getting smoked all the time by an FX decided to "lean" a giant bolt at a 45 degree angle on your wheel while parked.

Either that or the bolt was sitting in a pothole upright and you ran over it. With the size of bolt, how is it even possible that it is sticking out not lying on its side while on the road to cause this kind of damage?

That's unbelievable. I'm not sure how anyone is going to top that. Nice thread start!

Did you hear it / feel it as soon as it happened? Do you know where/which highway it was on?

It happened right before an entrance ramp on the hwy.. Go on this ramp twice a week. Knew it the instant it happened too. I heard a few klanks in the rear wheel well, like I ran over and kicked up some rocks.. Didn't see a thing in my rear view, but then I heard the clicking noise per revolution.. Pulled over to check it out and saw that thing, figured it was a small bolt, but damn! I looked over the tire and there were two other spots where a huge chunk of tread was torn off. I think these were the results of other bolts not getting through; the ones I heard banging around the wheel well.. I'm sure some yahoo put them there on purpose.

I now take a different ramp a few miles north of it...

never seen one that long..... lol. holly smokes that's crazy in my experiences with tire flats never seen one that long I have seen little tek screws and sheet rock screws (construction trade)... glad it worked out and you got it fixed

I've got 20/15+ vision Stu and I can't see that on the road at 45 mph especially of I'm not looking for it.

Tim, it's a bolt.. Flat bottom and threaded.. Freak accident or set up.. Maybe I should get lotto tickets.. or sit in a bomb shelter.
