A Tune or Coilover

Hello all,

I have 05 FX35 AWD 52000miles on it, and currently contemplating whether I should get a tune or coilover.
As I asked UPRev, a tune will be around $650.00
As far as bolt on mods I have:

Stillen Intake kit w/ Z-tube
Motordyne 5/16 Iso Thermal Copper Plenum Spacer
Berk High Flow Cats
Invidia Gemini Cat Back Exhaust

Pretty much everything except headers and pulleys.
So any input is appreciated.
Thanks!

Are your struts and shocks gone? If not mine lasted close to 100k miles so I would say tune then do coilovers at 100k miles.

Don't count out unichip.

Personally, I feel the coilovers will produce a more cost effective end-result. But depends on what you're looking to get out of your car.

I would do coils as well. A tune us nice, but you may our may not be happy with the gains... I know you'll be happy with the coils:-)

The only thing I feel like a tune really does is make your engine run better. Tad bit more responsive and more power. Coils make a huge difference in looks and handling. Besides, all that power isn't any good if it doesn't handle well.

Hanjo, you already have a good amount of bolt ons, I say go for the coils. I did coils and wheels/tires around the same time and have been really happy overall. I choose handling and looks over my "adequate" performance at the moment. Just as Paul says: Get low get low get low....

Aloha racing for BC's - Megan's, not sure where to purchase. Both are quality products

whoops purchased my BC's at Import Image...

I vote tune first, coils later! I've done both. If you liked the way your bolt-ons felt, you will definitely like the way the tune feels. You have all the supporting mods you could want for a tune to work really well for you. You've come this far with the power mods - the tune will finish it up.

You'll be more excited to get the coils after you feel the bump in power.

Decision, decision. Put down $1500 you got best of both. Seriously, I would go tune first to put a wrap on the bolt on mods.

I would also lean towards the tune IF you are done with your power mods for the long term......Odds are your mods are not performing at their maximum.

One day I am leaning more toward getting a coilover and the next day leaning more toward tune lol

As for the tune:
The thing is, I wonder how much gain and feel I will be expecting...
I mean, is the gain and reponsiveness noticeable?
Like, step on the gas and say 'WOW' after getting the tune.

As for the coilover:
On the other hand, of course I will feel the difference right away after installing the coilover.
Howver, how much does the handling improve compares to stock suspension setup?
Let's say there is a curve that you usually take daily to go to work and it is kinda harsh for the FX to make a turn at certain speed.
After installing the coilover, would taking the same curve will be much less stressful and much more reliable?
I would like to hear more in detail about what people been saying 'HUGE DIFFERENCE IN HANDLING' after installing the coilover.

Getting a coilover would be more useful and effective for daily driving, but still would like hear more about it.
People who have done either a tune or coilover,
Please provide some experience and that would be really appreciated.
Thanks guys as always.

Neither is going to be earth shattering with regards to performance gains. The tune will maximize your power mods an you will see maybe 10-15 WHP but it will be clean and smoother. Coilivers will give you better looks NOW. You can also dial in the ride but the stock spring rates on the COs aren't heavy duty so the cornering aspect isn't going to be night and day.

Do all the GTS braces with COs and its pretty sweet. Incremental gains are just that, incremental. I say if you really want to see a difference do the CO's and lower that thing. Then finish up all your power mods over time and THEN do your tune.
