INJEN intake works on VK45DE!

I guess I should start this off by giving credit where credit is due. Ed - Chedman13 crossreferenced fitment information for the M45 and came up with a 99% hypothesis that the M45 INJEN CAI would fit on the 06+ VK45DE FX. I called INJEN to ask further questions, they refused to commit but said the only way you will know is if you try it. I sat on it for a couple weeks and finally said WTH.....

I'll let the pictures tell the story:
Packing was bullet proof and really, really well done -

MY OE air box was removed previously for the JWT intake set up but I had to remove the small moisture container that connects to the bottom of the OE Box to make additional room. Two bolts with an extension, easy enough.

OE container in:

OE container out (apologies) for the different angle:

Had a a concern that the rubber hose connectors were oversized, (they tightened down fine):

Test fitting filter cone down inside well ("after install" pics make it so you can't see the cone). well It is DEEP with LOTS of room around cone. Eventually I'd like to port more air from the out side to the well similar to what Wazabiz did on the ORG with the opening in the lower drivers side fin:

Only hitch in install was the brackets as this was made for the M45 and the mounting points are different. I tried to twist the one bracket by hand (yeah right). When I have the ride in the shop I'll have them tweak them into shape.

Top bracket shown sitting on rubber mount (supplied) Just needs to be twisted:

Lower bracket fits nowhere yet:

Close up over head installed:

Overhead further back:

Initial appraisal, this is a great find. Quality is excellent and once the brackets are resolved the install will be a no brainer. Sound with regards to a Db rating is about the same as the JWT was, maybe a hair louder based on its location outside of the engine bay and being away from the stock hood fireproofing/deadener. Sound quality is amazing - Resonance factor from tubing and cone position gives it an exotic sound and is very cool, hard to describe but its different than I've had on any of my other rides.

The look I am very pleased with, bling factor is an easy 10. Calling INJEN next week to set up a crossover sell on their site. Once the brackets are reworked (again the lead bracket is a no brainer) this might be a nice candidate for a GB.

Looks purdy! What's the reason for the big bend in the pipe? Can't tell for sure from the pics, but does it need to bend around something?

Great job Ed and Lance!

Not sure what the bend is for (the the OE intake also had a fairly tight bend as well), it may be an M thing BUT it is nice to have clear access to the dipstick  The JWT filter cone made access a PITA. Also lots more room now with the sound deadener box gear gone.....

The bends are there to clear the engine covers on the M. Also, I believe they are there to keep the factory tune as close as possible so that no tune is required. If you change the distance of the maf to the TB it changes the tune, at least that is how it was when I had a WRX.

That looks good.
Why do all those gold brackets next to the plenum have to be so ugly. But every manufacturer does it ugly

Agreed, they are fugly, why not silver at least? My next shop trip, cut off the brackets and reroute the tubes and wiring.

Lance, that looks great! Next time you're at the shop ask them about some heat shielding for that aluminum tube.

^That's true. Moving the maf relative to the TB has a big (negative) effect. I've tried it both ways (increasing and decreasing the distance) and *without a way to adjust the tune yourself* it is highly counterproductive.

Wow, looking good Lance. Love how the cone filter is far far away from heat. Do you feel you need a tune with this mod since MAF position is off a bit, isn't it?.

sweet, nice write up Lance.

And thank you man

Well done Logan! I hope Injen minimized the risk to you now that they get to increase their product catalog.

They were relatively uninvolved, I said I'd take the risk.....I thunk they'll do something for the pics and data.

Can we geta a snd clip?
I'll work on that....

As expected the tube temp down in the well is considerably lower than closer to the engine after a drive. The car runs perfectly with out tuning (although I'll have a couple brush up tunes coming soon ) My concerns about the MAF standoff being 5/8" higher than OE were unfounded BTW.

Have you tried using it as a short ram also? Any clearance issues?
Just went with the full length as half length would have put me close to JWT pop charger range. Interesting thought though...... Zero clearance issues, in fact more room than the JWT unit which was fine.

Very nice. You finally got a "normal" intake
Hah, thanks Nick.

That looks really good!!!
Agreed, icing on the cake!

nice write up!
Tnanks man, So much easier to document a DIY.

Checked tube temp yesterday after a combined freeway/city run. Close to TB tube is very warm, down in wheel well tube is nice and cool. Very pleased so far, I'd like to come up with a slick heat shield that stands off 3/4" and runs under the tube about 10" out from the TB but I am reluctant to screw with Intake at all as it looks good as-is.
