Front brake popping noise

I was just wondering what do you think would cause the front brakes to make a pop noise when all of a sudden applying the brakes below 5 MPH? When I'm like pulling into my driveway or parallel parking and I speed up and sharply apply the brakes they make a "pop" sound. But if I'm in stop and go traffic or driving fast out on the road in everyday driving the brakes never make the pop sound. It only seems to do it when driving under 5 MPH. I had someone listen to it outside for me and we pinpointed the noise coming from inside the caliper.

I got one question is it safe to drive it like that? I got a 1K miles road trip this weekend. I figured it would be okay since I've been having this sound for like two months already and nothing happened lol.

I thinks it's normal, becuase I hear the same sound when reversing and braking sharply. Do you hear it when you reverse and brake.

I get this also on my 1st Gen 06 at very slow speeds, like when coming out of my driveway and making a slow turn, or reversing into a spot. But never hear it whrn normal driving or highway driving. Always wondered waht it was but it never has caused a problem so far....

I hear more of a grinding noise w/ vibration when doing a sudden stop from slow speeds on my 06. I always thought this was abnormal but neither the dealer nor my mechanic could find any problems..

Did you recently change your pads and rotors? I got this same thing as few weeks ago when I upgraded to drilled rotors and Hawks pads...but I think it was from them breaking in. The issue is gone now as it's been about a month. Still get that popping tho....

Yeah I get it while braking sharly in reverse too. Someone told me the piston in the caliper may be stuck causing the popping noise. I'll have to let the dealer look at it when I come back from my trip. Luckily it's not a constant noise.

Aaron, you seem to be having lots of issues with your ride.
I do not think that is normal and would find out what it is.

I do not have that noise, and if I did I would be bitchin to the Dealer about it, or taking it to my own independent shop.

Not too many issues. Just the small trim piece that peeled, the ticking cats which the dealer both fixed, and just this brake popping noise which I'll let them deal with,

Other than those three things no other problems and I'm picky:wink:

:smile (2): I know you are very picky.
The person that purchases your used vehicles will be getting a better than new car :wink (2):

I brought this into the dealer as I heard the same a few months ago. They figured out exactly what the noise was and it is replicatable sometimes when going under 5mph steering wheel turned all the way and reversing. I can't remember what they said it was but it was normal for Nissan meaning all fx do it just not always make the pop.

FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY GOT RID OF THIS ANNOYING NOISE!!!

I had my front brake pads changed yesterday because I was starting to hear a metal on metal sound when driving and applying the brakes. The brake pads were so effing noisy and the pedal was starting to feel "spongy" and there was alot of brake pedal travel so I had the pads changed out. The dealer gave me the old pads back to show me what they looked like:

The original reason I made this thread was because I was getting a pop or click noise at low speeds around 5mph and when parking and backing up. The noise sounded like a pop or click noise as if the piston in the caliper was stuck or something. After changing the brake pads the noise completely went away and found out that the pads were thin and causing them to "shift" around inside the caliper. Glad this is all fixed now. The stopping power feels great now. I can't believe how much stopping power I've lost over the past 2 years.

Did you go with original rotors and pads?

Did the squealing go away with new pads?

It looks like you have a ton of brake pad life left no?

Yeah original pads and rotors. Only thing I noticed is that the old pads that were already in there weren't made by Akebono and just said Nissan on them. But the new OEM pads Infinitiparts gave me are made by Akebono. I called and asked them and they said Nissan switched their brake pad supplier to Akebono only now. I only changed the brake pads though. No rotor resurfacing or any of that nonsense since I'm getting a front BBK soon. Just not sure when yet. The pads were getting pretty bad so that's why I changed them for the time being. To get the car to come to a stop I had to push the pedal all the way to the floor almost. The pedal felt too soft. And all these noises they were making went away. The new OEM Akebono pads they put in are really quiet and I love them.

From the picture above the pads didn't look too bad. But I guess looks aren't everything because they sure were performing very poorly.

sweet! Did they bleed your brakes / flush your brake fluid? I heard that would fix the brakes being so soft and having to press down much...not necessarily the pads.

How much were the 4 pads and how much was the install?

Did you get the pads from infinitipartsusa?

No brake fluid bleeding or anything. Just installed the pads. The brake fluid still looks clear and full.

To install the pads it was $120.

Pads cost me $70 from Infinitipartsusa. Dealer pricing is like $115 I believe.
