Just had my summer tires put on...the tire shop gouged the hell out of my wheels. They've already said they'll pay to repair the one thats gouged on the spoke, I'm going after them for all 4.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Awwww man that is sad, how can a competent shop do that. That would make me sick :frown:
Make sure all 4 are fixed up as new. Thank goodness I have a couple of good shops that care.

Man that is sad. What kind of animal that the shop had hired. I hope they were up front with you and offer to repair/replace the wheels without too much effort on your part. Good luck man.

That is horrible....

Did you get this done at your Infiniti dealer?

Those are FX50 rimes right? Those are very very expensive rims with very expensive paint and copyrighted only to enkei ...hopefully they will match the color well because they can't have access to the exact paint enkei uses as it is protected color.

Hey, can you pm me your avatar in full resolution? I love it and would love to make it my wallpaper!....sorry off topic lol

that's a lot of carelessness and stupidity there, those pics are 4 individual wheels?

First, I'm very sorry to hear about that, that really blows. I had this EXACT SAME problem when I had my G37S coupe with 19's. I had my winter tires put on, and took it to Goodyear. The guy running the machine gouged all 4 of my wheels and the faces were all scratched up. They said they will have them refinished for me, but refused to pay for brand new wheels.

Initially when I bought the vehicle, I went the route of swapping summer/winter tires on the same rims so I could avoid having to buy a new set of rims, which I would have gotten nicer more expensive wheels for summer and used my stock rims for winter. I learned the hard way that it's better to minimize the # of times you mount tires on your rims to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the first place. THe more times you mount/dismount tires on a wheel, the more times you're opening yourself up to something like this happening.

I also learned the hard way that when you want tires mounted on nice wheels, you need to make sure up front that they use machines that don't touch your wheels to mount the tires, and what is their policy around replacing your wheels if they are damaged during mounting. Also, keep in mind that tire shops typically have younger, less experienced people mount tires and since they mount tires on beaters most of the time, they don't use extreme caution and care when they then handle your wheels, which alone cost more then some of the beaters they work on.

The Infiniti Dealership charges more $ to mount tires, but they use touchless machines to do so, so there isn't much chance they'll damage your rims. But even if they do, they'll pay to have your wheels replaced with BRAND NEW ones, which is how it should be. Other places likely will only pay to have them refinished, which can be a half-assed job that wont hold up anywhere near as well as the stock finish. In addition, their mechanics are very experienced and certified, plus since they deal with expensive rims and vehicles all day every day, they will be much more careful with your stuff.

Very sorry to hear you had the same thing that happened to me, happen to you as well. All I can say is learn from it so you don't have to deal with it again, and hopefully others see this so they don't need to experience this for themselves.

Good luck! Try to get them to REPLACE the wheels with brand new ones, which is what they should do. Repairing them isnt the same, and the finish won't hold up anywhere near as well as stock, plus the color won't be an exact match, regardless of what they tell you. Also, if they only want to repair 1 of your 4 wheels, then the color on that one wheel won't match the others exactly. I definitely wouldn't want to have your 3 undamaged stock wheels refinished since that will ruin the factory finish that is much better. When I had my wheels refinished, they didn't look terrible, but the color and quality was much different then factory. If they only damaged 1 wheel, I'd fight tooth and nail to get them to replace that one wheel. You have a harder time convincing them to replace 4 wheels at over $600 each ($2,400 total), vs just one wheel.

Not sure if the pics are actually from 4 different wheels, but they all have similar damage.

They said they damaged ONE wheel when mounting, that the machine bounced off and dinged the rim. They did not acknowlede any of the other damage. Going to speak with them shortly about the rest of the wheels.

I will admit there was some slight curb rash on 2 of the rims (probably about 3-4 inches) but they've done 10 times the damage. I wasn't going to bother fixing the curb rash, but they need to be repaired for sure now.

I didn't have them done at the Infiniti dealer, just a local shop that I thought had a good reputation. My dealer is about 1.5 hours away, and they've been a pain in the A$$ to deal with lately, so I've been having most of my work done locally.

Sorry to hear you had to learn the hard way too.

I'd love to get the wheels replaced, but I doubt there's any real possibility of that happening. I'll certainly pay more attention to where I have this sort of work done in the future.

matching the color shouldn't be too much of a problem for a wheel re-conditioner outfit, I've done some fx50 wheels sent out & they matched the originals very well. expect ~$6-700 for all 4 unmounted, refinished & re mounted/balanced... look for large nation wide chains such as wheel fix it or wheels america.. that is there only business, to restore oe wheels to look new again

this is the problem with getting anything done now a days, to find a worker that really cares about what he is doing is just becoming more & more rare... it seems that the norm is just to go through the motions & get through the day... I see this all the time & have gotten to the point that I don't want anyone to do anything on my car anymore, but, it's not always possible & there will always be times you have no choice. the best you can do is hope they don't screw it up too much... in your case guess not... sucks... I'd fight them to make good for what they screwed up, problem is even the business owners don't give a crap most times either, there only concern is to make money... they don't see the problem as there workers incompetence, instead they see you as the problem "complaining little prick", your making problems for them & trying to get something out of them that they don't want to give... overall it just sucks man, sorry for your headaches

Well that's what I thought would be the case with my G37s 19" sport rims, but they have the color Hyper Silver. According to the rim refinishers, they first needed to paint the wheel black and powder coat it after stripping stock finish off. Then they needed to start layering silver paint on top of the black until it reaches the desired color. So it's not as simple as just getting paint of a certain color code, and due to that process they can never match them exactly. Plus, the durability of the refinish just isn't as solid as the stock paint.

They'll look very close, but not match, and if you have wheels that don't all match exactly it looks dumb.

I couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately, there are a lot of lazy people who will complain and try to get as much as they can for free, people that sue for no reason other then to make money, etc. Because of those people, businesses think all customers are just out to be a pain in the butt, and many times they aren't as responsive to actual complaints due to all the losers they typically deal with. Plus you hit the nail on the head, most businesses (especially as they get to be larger outfits) are ONLY focused on $ and profit. Small businesses typically are founded on customer satisfaction, and I go out of my way to deal with small mom & pop type of shops, even if they charge a little more you get such outstanding service it's worth it. Unfortunately as businesses grow, that gets lost and all that is important is how much more $ they can rake in.

That sucks bro, well today in the morning I caused damage to my own rims today when I was trying to parallel park some lady got too close to my car and I had to cut the wheel quick so I would not hit her and ended up damaging my Lexani rim when I hit the curb. I was so pissed but I might just leave the rim like that and in the winter have them refinish it and possibly change the color of all four wheels.

Sorry man, I truley feel your pain. I had some staggered 18-19 Vette wheels powdercoated black and took them to a local shop to mount and balance the new meats. When I went to pick them up they said nothing, I took a closer look, they had gashed every wheel around the outter lip. Oh there's more, they tried to hide the marks with a blk Sharpy. I blew a major gasket cause those SOBs said they were like that when I brought them in. After scaring a few of customers out of the lobby with my rant, they did a no charge on the mount and balance but refused to have the wheels fixed. Lost a customer and I advise everyone that lives close not to go there. I hate shaddy lying POS jerks! Sh*t happens but that's just bad buisness.

DO NOT go to the GoodYear on Route 59 in Warrenville!

I don't mean to jack the thread, but seems like you guys would know, especially turbocad and maybe bobby....where can I get the FX50 touch up paint (or similar to it). The hyper silver or the silver single stage as turbocad seems to know. Thanks.

that I really don't know. that's pretty much why I just send the wheel out if I'm just doing one to match the other existing ones. if I'm doing a set of 4 it's mainly because I'm doing them a different color anyway.

for just a touch up get your hands on whatever silvers are available & match it by eye, should be able to get something that don't look too bad as a touch up.if not, usually I can just mix something that's too light & something that's 2 dark together to get the best match, if I couldn't find a match close enough that would be the next step, get 2 & mix...

That's funny, I live in MN but the place that damaged my wheels was ALSO a Goodyear lol. My Coupe only had 7,000 miles on it at the time and the entire vehicle was immaculate. When I picked up the car, not only had they put the wrong tires on the wrong wheels (the wheels are staggered, but they had rear tires on the front wheels), but the tires were directional and they had them mounted the WRONG WAY!

I got home and that's when I noticed that. That's also when I noticed my wheels were all gouged up, when they looked brand new prior to that.

If you screw up and damage a customer's wheels, which they obviously knew they did since you couldn't miss it, then fess up to the customer that we accidentally damaged your wheels but we'll take care of it. It's bad business to try and hide it and hope the customer doesn't notice, regardless of whether they eventually fess up to it and fix your wheels. They should be honest in the first place and just level with you.

I have to go with Bobby2478 on this - when dealing with the OEM rims, even if it costs a bit more to have an Infiniti dealer mount/unmount the rims/tires, it is totally worth the peace of mind knowing that they deal with the OEM wheels all day long and if they happen to F-k something up with them, at least there is a good chance you will get made whole again (whether you get a new rim or otherwise). I just took off my OEM 18's (winter setup) and mounted my 21 FX50 Enkei rims. I didn't even think twice in going to the dealership - not only becuase of what I said above, but also because they mated the TPMS sensors (I have TPMS sensors in both setups).

That truly appears to be the best route to go. I learned the hard way that going the cheap route when dealing with expensive OEM wheels like we have, just isn't the way to go. You def pay more to have the dealership mount tires on your rims and remove them etc, but you also have very experienced and careful hands that are working on your stuff. They will exercise extreme care, because they know if they damage them, they are out several thousand dollars to replace your OEM wheels. The 19's on my G37s were almost $3k just to replace the OEM wheels! And at the end of the road if they do damage them (which is nearly impossible because they almost all use touchless machines, which are too expensive for a lot of tire shops), they'll typically REPLACE your wheels with new ones instead of just giving you a crappy repair job.

On the other hand, if your OEM wheels are all beat up and you don't really care if they get damaged, then it doesn't matter as much. But if they are in good shape and you want to keep them that way, I would ONLY have tires mounted at the dealer. It's more of a hassle, but the typical tire shop has very inexperienced people mounting tires, and they are used to working on pieces of junk most of the time, so they don't have much experience dealing with a $3k set of wheels when most cars they work on are probably only worth $2k. Plus most of these shops can't afford the expensive touchless machines used to mount tires that the dealership has.

The other thing to consider is time. If your wheels are damaged, it is a HUGE hassle to let the tire shop keep your car while they take your wheels off, send them in to be repaired, and then get them sent back to the shop. I had to fight tooth and nail to get them to agree to pay for a rental car, they gave me a POS Saturn loaner to drive and that thing was worth LESS then the wheels they were repairing. The dealer will give you an Infiniti loaner if they needed to keep your car, and would likely not need to keep your car if they replace the wheels for you.
