Did some detailing a week ago. Thought I would share some pics and my step by step process. I didnt do any taping, that takes too much time and frankly Im careful enough to not tape. Everything is hand applied using no DA buffers or orbitals. Since the black paint can be easily shown with swirl marks I apply everything by hand to reduce the chance of swirl marks from the machines.

Detail Process:

1. Hand Wash
2. Claybar the entire FX to remove any residue and grim stuck on the paint.
3. Meguiars M105 Ultra Cut Compound
4. Meguiars M205 Ultra Finishing Polish
5. BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection Sealant (for a super wet looking effect)
6. Zymol Carbon Wax (worth the money)

All in all the total time to do everything was about 5 hours. Here are the results

Oh shiny!

Frankly, I love detailing my FX and stuff, but I don't think I can spend five hours doing it, lol.

I love taking care of my toys. Plus, its not like you detail a car like this every month. This is like every 6-8 months.

AND im getting the satisfaction of knowing that its done right and done to my standards, unlike most businesses that do detailing.

But everyone is different.

nice shine and good workout (esp in Black), now u have an excuse not to schedule gym this week or weekend. :smug:

Looks nice and shiny.. I understand what you mean by knowing it was done right because you did it yourself. But, to find those 5 hours lol..

Now it's time to detail your 350 and post some pics.

Too true, Moose! For me, 5 hours is just the wash and clay bar!

How you did the wash, clay, 2 compounds, sealant and wax in only five hours is beyond me man - fast work! I can't do any single layer in less than an hour with the size of the FX.

Im a very efficient and thorough person LOL.

Beautiful man. How does that shine hold up to daily rinsing. Pollen count in VA. makes my FX look black & yellow, black & yellow, black & yellow...and I hate the Steelers!! So I'm rinsing everyday.

The FX looks awesome I'm going to wax my FX pretty soon but I'm going to try turtle wax "the black box" which is made for cars with black paint. Videos that I have seen on YouTube from people that have used it look legit. I will see how it goes with my FX.

I need to rinse it off this weekend. Has pollen on it now. But the rinse should return it to the picture above.

Well gave it a wash today, result is awesome. water beads up on the car and rolls right off. washing and drying the FX was easy peasy.

Where would I find a clay bar? The lady at Autozone lookied at me like I was speaking Mandarin.

It's in the same aisle as the car wash and detailing products. It usually comes in a boxed kit. Or you try speaking Cantonese instead

This ^. I ordered mine online from a detailing website as with most of my products.
:tup:That is soooo shiny.
Thank you!

Looks great! I have that same pollen issue with mine. I love a clean shine and a black FX is IMHO the only way to go, but such high maintenance! I bought the Turtle Black Box, and seems to work well... best with a power buffer. Very messy - all liquids are black - be prepared to spend a lot of quality time with it! :)
