I have a 05 FX35 that I got about 4 years ago and it has been a great vehicle but I am having some problems as of late. It has 70K on the odometer now and recently it started shimmying and vibrating going down the highway. I replaced all the rotors and brake pads, had the tires balanced and rotated. The tires are in great shape still, about 25K on them.

It has the stock wheels.

Some times when I drive it I have no problems and other times it shakes very badly. I was hoping you guys could help me out.

Hub rings?
Axles?

Thanks

A few of us have had this issue too. I had my alignment done and wheels road force balanced rotors turned with no change. I had a vibration you could feel between 50 to 60 mph.
See this link for probable solution to your problem----

Fixed my shimmy tonight.

Finally got around to doing the steering rack adjustment and it took all of 10 minutes to do. This was by far the easiest repair to the FX I have ever done. It took about half a turn in untill lightly snug then I backed the adjuster screw out about an eighth of a turn. Just went for a test drive and no more shimmy at all.
Hope it works as well for you.

the rack adj.. is a temporary fix, after 2 weeks fx dance (what i call it) or shimmy is back, needs to be adjusted again

Loctite cures self-loosening bolts like a vaccine.

Too true. We use that crap everywhere in aerospace. Just make sure you get the proper type of Loctite - there are about 20 of them in two or three different colors. The wrong one is as good as welding the bolt into the hole. You are looking for a light duty "thread locker" if your bolt just keeps backing out.

Well It definitely is not the screw on the steering. It is really bad now. I had the tires balanced and tested again ,they are fine. I have a horrible vibration that starts at about 40mph and gets progressively worse as speed increases. I can feel the vibration throughout the entire car. I am also running a check engine lite now.

I put it on the scanner and it says is is a computer miscommunication somewhere.

Could it be wheel bearings?

Did you have an allignment done? If not they could maybe find some other suspension issue while doing the allignment.

But vaccines don't cure, they just protect against possible future problems.

if your car sounds like an airplane taking off, could be hub bearings.

also check for play on the control arms. inspect bushings near suspension -- could be a lot of things. You have a 2005 so it is a bit old.
