so i got some window tint done, all 7 windows. now the first problem was guy used heat gun on my door sill up top burning the plastic! shop gave me 150 to get it repaired, my repair guy can do it.

next issue i am having is the rear hatch window and two side quarter panel windows. now on the rear hatch the tint is not edge to edge around the whole window, i can a strip/border of maybe .5 inch, maybe a bit less around it. the two rear quarter windows follow the window pattern but snip off not making the whole area tinted. all of this is only visible from the inside. i went back to the shop and they said it is not a big deal and you cannot see it from outside etc... they warranty the tint and say if anything bubbles, peels, changes colors etc.. they will redo it but said the little bit of glass showing is normal and not a big deal. i kind of expected it to be seamless... am i just being picky? how is the tint on most of your rear windows, edge to edge?

getting them to reluctantly redo it. the guy did not want to do it but i pointed out that my door panel was BURNED with a freakin heat gun. (my repair guy can fill and match the color for 150, he cannot get the texture down though. he said it will be fine since it is farily small and in an obscure area) I said I could be a dick about it and ask for new door panels @ 1000 each or whatever they cost. He finally agreed to redo the hatch window, while im there im going to make sure they redo the rear quarter panel windows also, they only tinted 3/4 of those windows... ridiculous. im so choked... first my door panels damaged and now this.

All of what you stated would make me mad as hell.

i am insanely mad, beyond mad actually. i just had a huge insurance claim cause some retard broke my windows. i finally just got everything the way i wanted. installed a compustar pro alarm, top of the line w/prox sensor & glass break sensor, and added tint all around to ensure if anyone broke my windows again the film would help protect my interior.

i gave the shop wayyy too much credit thinking they would do a good job... first thing i noticed was the burned interior, i was super choked. i get the 150 for the repair(next tue) fair enough. if i was a dick i'd demand new door panels but figured a decent repair will suffice since it is relatively small and in an obscure area. then i realize the tint is just ugly as sin, i overlooked the actual tint to them damaging my door panels... i go back to the shop and they apply some ghetto ass marker film pen thingy to even out the tint like wtf! they tell me it is all normal etc.... i come home post here to see if the tint job is normal and while i wait call 3-4 other local shops, everyone says it is not normal. i call back and shop owner is still selling me on the fact that is normal and supposed to be that way. i insist i am unhappy and spend $$$ to improve my car, it looks like crap on the inside... i point out i could have said no to the $150 door panel repair and demanded $1000 new door panels... he says OK we will redo it and take it to the edge. so now i go back on saturday to get it redone. i am going to sit there and watch them like a hawk the whole time. demand that they redo anything that i deem unacceptable, if they don't comply or give me a hard time im going to say the $150 repair is no longer acceptable and i want my new door panels as it is better for me. if they cannot provide a top notch tint i will not be so nice and let it slide.... i am doing them a HUGE favor by allowing the $150 repair when a lot of guys wouldn't.

sorry for the long rant just fuming.:mad.:

well after another long wasted day due to this crappy shop... i had the tint full removed. they reinstalled the film earlier today. i still found dirt underneath all over. i went to another tint shop and the guy laughed... i went back and they removed all the tint and refunded my money. tomorrow i am getting the new shop to redo the whole thing. the guy promised everything will be a night and day difference from the crap i had.

now i just hope the repair to my door panel turns out okay. if not i held onto my receipt from the orig tint shop so i can file suit in small claims court, i also tape recorded our conversation LOL.

will my rear defroster be okay? i read somewhere they stop working if u remove tint. i was under the impression that is only if u were to razor blade the lines or something?

This sucks to hear. Really good tint shops have this technique where they use this gel to make sure there is no gaps and bubbles over the dot matrix outline on the rear windows. Before they use to leave a gap because the tint would not adhere to the dots on the window outline, but over the years they developed more techniques. Also a good tint shop does micro edging where they get the tint to the edge of the window as close as possible, then file the edge down or something of the tint to insure it won't peel.

Any reputable tint shop is suppose to work in a well ventilated indoor environment. Best brands of tint to use are Lumar, 3M, etc etc. I have 3M tint on my windows.

ya it really does suck. wasted wed/thur/fri on this amateur shop. i will get it redone by a reputable shop tomorrow. my cousin can vouch for this shop as they did his 350z and i checked out the shop. the guy actually won awards for his tinting.

im also just choked about the heat gun to my door panel. i hope the repair guy can do a good job. if not ill take the shop to small claims court, im sure i would win.

just got in from dropping the car off. the shop owner is doing the tint himself. he has won several awards for his tinting in contests here in canada. he said it will be perfect and a night/day difference from the crap i previously had.

do u guys think the small door repair will be sufficient? it is basically 3 relatively small areas that got a bit melted by the heat gun. my repair guy said it will be about a 7/10 he can fill it and color match it 100% just cannot get the texture down obviously. they are in pretty obscure areas. or should i sue the shop for new panels?
