Climate Controlled Seats and AC question

First time posting...
I bought a new 2010 FX 35 RWD in October and hit an issue with the passenger side climate control seats. If you turn the knob to heat the seats, and the person sitting there slouches a bit, the Climate Controlled Seats shuts off in a few minutes. Meaning the fan turns off and the LED on the knob turns off. The only way to turn the climate control seats on again is to turn off the vehicle and then turning it back on. This only happens when the person slouches a bit... I was wondering if anyone knows why this happens, I've been looking everywhere. I took my FX back to the dealership and they don't know what's going on. They were able to reproduce the issue and have been diagnosing the issue since Saturday with no word from them yet. This may also be a widespread issue because my brother-in-law and I were able to reproduce the issue in a new 2011 FX 35 we test drove while we were at the dealership this past weekend. Has anyone with this option noticed this issue?

The other annoying thing I noticed, is when I cut my AC on weather it is on Auto or not, it starts out blowing at my feet instead of the last setting. Do any of you know why this is the case?

Thanks in Advance.

My climate controlled seats do this too. It shuts off if you don't sit in the seat properly or slouch and the light on the knob that illuminates turns off. It has to do with the the passenger side occupant sensor. I can tell you right now this is normal. I did some research on it because I thought it was broken, but it wasn't. A perfect example is like when you sit in the seat improperly and the passenger side airbag off light illuminates to let you know that your not sitting in the seat the right way. The same goes for the
climate controlled seats.

For the AC I know why it blows air to the floor first. It has to do with the memory settings for your key fobs. You can actually set the memory system and pair it with the intelligent key to remember your AC settings when you start the car. Not sure how to program that though. It's worth asking the dealer.

Thanks for the info... I assumed it was some sensor... it's annoying as my brother-in-law would call it because he can't sit "relaxed." Funny thing, this doesn't happen on the drivers side.

Thank you for the note on the AC, I do have my seats programmed to my key and is probably why the AC is linked to it. You basically do this by Turning your car on first. Get the seats and mirrors aligned the way you want. Then press the set button, then the press and hold either 1 or 2 depending on what button you want to program it. You hold down the button until the orange LEDs blink. Then press the unlock button on your key fob. That will link your remote to your memory seats.

No problem man! any more questions, just let me know :-)

Not to sound like an ass or something, but I wouldn't really recommend sitting in the seat improperly either. When slouch sitting in the seat and you happen to be in an accident and the airbag deploys, you run the risk or being seriously injured by my the airbag. That why when you sit in the seat wrong sometimes, the airbag off light below on the center console shuts off the airbag to keep from deploying it. I already learned that the hard way from my other car.

No worries man. Thanks for the advice... Just out of curiosity though, when your climate control seat light went off... did your Air bag off light come on? Because in mine it didn't. It still detected that someone was in the seat.

Nope never went off. For the airbag off light to illuminate you really really have to be sitting in the seat the wrong way. Take your hand and push down on the seat cushion a couple of times with medium pressure. The light should illuminate that the airbag is turned off.

Whoa, this happens to mine also. I thought it was a messed up seat sensor or something. I even made an appointment to bring it in to get checked out. Glad to hear it's not a problem. The wife has a smaller frame and when she sits in the passenger seat in her Altima, the airbag sensor goes off saying it is "off." I guess the same goes with the FX seat temp control.

Why then doesn't the airbag light go to "off?" or is there even a light for that? <-- nevermind. finished reading the posts.

When my ex girlfriend use to sit in the seat the airbag off light would come on sometimes because she was only 85 pounds lol. The seat thinks she was a kid because kids shouldn't be in the front incase the airbag deploys.

You would think that Inifiniti wouldn't tie the climate control seats to the occupant sensor, because the sensor doesn't prevent you from running it when no one is sitting in the seat. I have the same issue with my wife... where the Air Bag Off light will come on when she sits in the seat.

So my FX is still at the dealership because I had taken it there Saturday for my first oil change and I had told them about the issue with the climate controlled seats. Well, the were able to recreate the issue after I told them how. I just got a call back and they said they are going to need more time to figure out what's going on :). They also mentioned that they were able to recreate the issue in another FX. I told them YA..."I told you yesterday that it also happened in the 2011 FX I test drove over the weekend and mentioned to check the occupant sensor." The current status of this service is waiting for Infiniti Corporate to approve time to continue working on the vehicle. Am I crazy in thinking that they should know how they made the car. I am talking Infiniti Engineers that deal with people at the dealership. My dealership told me that there is a lot of back and forth going on with Infiniti Engineers and the tech at the dealership.

Replacing something for the seats is not going to make it act any different. All 2009+ FX's do this.

So I finally got my FX back this past Saturday... the technician told me that the reason why the controlled climate seats were cutting out was due to the tube inside the seat was closed. I am assuming pressed down or bent such that it was blocking the air. So what they did to resolve the issue was to route the tube differently. So far, it hasn't cut out yet... I still think it may be linked to the occupant sensor... but its weird that it hasn't cut out yet after having someone slouch in the seat for 20 minutes.

Just an update... after getting my FX back with the re-routed tubeline for the climate controlled seats, the climate control has not cut out yet. The longest time running was 40 minutes when my brother-in-law and I drove to work.

I just wanted to update this thread. I recently took the FX in for the 7500 mile service and told them about the seat warmer shutting off. After the typical "it's supposed to", "it does that", "that's normal" routine, they checked it and said they had to replace a connector and there's a TSB on it.

I didn't get the TSB number, but with our road trip up to Philly this past weekend, the passenger seat warmer didn't shut off at all. Stayed on the entire time until our rest stop about 2 hours into the drive.

I wonder why dealers typically do this.....anyone?

The factory can't be paying them that much for warranty work, right?
