3rd gear shutter

Anyone have a shutter when shifting from 2nd to 3rd under normal driving. It just seems like it doesn't shift as smooth as all the other shifts. I have an 05 FX35 awd.

yeah I get that too... Think it's normal with the transmission...
I just live with it lol
However, when driving in manual mode, you can just take your foot off the gas when shifting which it also makes other drivers aware like you're driving a manual FX :)

I get that 1st to 2nd gear clunk when it's really cold and i just pull out. When the fx is warm after a few minutes, it's fine. Wierd but im guessing that's how it is. =\

Some other members might not have that issue depending on their location weather year round.

It sounds abnormal... I have a 06 RWD with 61k miles. My transmission shifts very nicely (it better stay that way or I'm gonna dump this and get another car ^_^)

I have this on my 2005 awd fx35. Replaced transmission fluid and nothing changed. I am chalking this up to "normal" on this car. Mine feels like a shudder when in automatic mode when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear. In manual mode, if feels more like a clunk between those gears. I have gotten pretty good at adjusting how I press on the gas to make it NOT do the shutter.

Mine does it. Dealer checked the tranny and says that it's "normal".

I haven't checked the motor mounts, but I think that the mounts would be a good place to start.

Mine gives a hard shift shutter is a good description) from 2nd to 3rd sometimes but usually when the tranny is cold and only when in manumatic.

On a side note, my Ford van has done this since day one and now has 350,000 Km on it with no tranny problems.

A temporary solution to the problem?

I might as well post my problem lol

the same exact thing happens to me to as well.
I drive an '06 RWD, it has 85k miles on it.

This is what happens...
When it's cold and I first leave the driveway (or any cold start) I hear a clunk from gear 1 to 2. Sometimes it happens in 2 when I go slowly.. I guess it makes the clunk when I get to 15 mph.
When in manumatic, I can leave it in the first gear and it makes the little clunk.. so I guess it's speed or rpm related?

Alright. Now when I'm driving normally (car can be warm or cold), the shift from 2 to 3 is smooth.. that's when I'm in AUTOMATIC.
When I use the manumatic mode, there is a big clunk sound from 2 to 3. and it's ANNOYING.

I've actually learned how to somewhat reduce the (2nd gear to 3rd gear) clunk when driving... When I'm speeding or whatever, I rarely hear the clunk. But when I'm driving without a lead foot, I hear it. This is my take: I believe the Infiniti's system is not..errr as quick as some of us are when we are using manumatic. So this is what I do:

1. When shifting from 2 to 3, I let my foot off the gas as soon as I shift, when I feel it get into 3- I depress the gas and go on with my life.
or

2. When shifting from 2 to 3, I let the rpm reach about 6k on 2nd then shift, then I go on with my life. (hardcore driving aka the lead foot procedure)
or

3. You can't just shift from 2 to 3, when you're at 4.5k because I think the system wants you to push it more before you shift? That's why you either for the 6k or you let off the gas right before you shift.

*If you accidentally leave it in manumatic on first gear for a long time (we all do it), don't shift back to automatic quickly, because the system will take it straight to 3 and you'll hear the clunk.

Honestly, I'm not sure if it is hurting my engine.. and I'm kinda sure it is lol because I had this one incident where I pushed it then I smelled a really foul burn smell.. and I opened my hood and my radiator was empty.. It was either Wal-Mart's fault for not filling it up after draining it or my FX puked? :( but after I filled it back up with Peak, it's been running smooth..

Maybe I'm wrong about the whole Infiniti system being "slow" when it comes to the manumatic mode? but it's just my guess. Then again, I am 18..and probably don't know much hahaha.

-The clunk @15mph is the abs self test and is normal

-The clunk between 2 and 3 in manumatic, if it's consistant, is abnormal. You probably need to change your transmission fluid.

-The system does not favor shifting above 4500rpm. The fact that your clunk is less noticeable at that speed is likely unrelated to the problem.

-Running without coolant is bad. Don't have your FX worked on at Walmart ever again. The burning smell was probably related to overheating caused by the low coolant and likely unrelated to the clunk sounds.

-The "slow Infiniti system" is an intentional delay that the engineers included in the shifting program. They call it a "luxury delay", and it is normal.

Do you know when last your FX had it's trans fluid changed?

You see? I don't know anything lol and I meant to put 5k not 6k, but same thing.

The clunk between 2nd and 3rd is very common on the G35 and since people are saying it on this forum, I'm assuming the FX35 as well.

and I haven't had it changed since my scheduled maintenance at Infiniti I believe.. honestly, I can't remember.
