Boston Area Group Detail?

i'm thinking of trying to put together a group detail if anyone is interested. this guy was named as one of the top ten detailers in the country and he's in wakefield.

he doesn't have a website, but uses facebook & posts on different forums all over the place. check out the facebook links and see the before and after work he does.

i think his prices range between $300-$600 depending on exactly what you need done. it's pricey, but you get what you pay for. from what i saw in the bmw forum, he gave a local group a $50 discount.

ive read a bunch of his writeups. you can find him on L4P.
the guys work is insane. def get what you pay for, especially with detailing.

you can try to get me up there too ya know :tongue (2):. im down to make the trip.

I'd go with Andrew over that other guy. Instead of $600 you could get the job done cheaper with Andrew and get the same results.

i'm not trying to put down andrew, i see he's clearly active here and offers good prices.

unfortunately he's not local to the guys in the boston area, and we do have access to a guy regarded as one of the best in the country but many people probably don't even know about him.

something tells me that when it's 25degrees outside & he comes up with limited tools, vs. having a large, heated shop full of tools - andrew won't be able to offer the same quaility that unique offers...

excuse me i have limited tools? my shop is busy all year round buddy & its heated too?
i guess your impresed with a larger shop over my small 2 car garage as if that matters with what kind of quality of work thats produced.
that guy does great work & is reguarded as one of the best in the country so what? that doesnt mean he does the best work. there are lots of detailers like me that are not so known around the country that can produce anything that those guys who charge double then me do. for all of the top rated guys in the country there isnt anyone out there that is better than me. there isnt anyone out there that can produce a better detail than me so yea, put me in that same category as him.

i guess you havent read many of my writeups. if your going to compare, the difference is you will be paying double for the same work to stay local. or you can pay me the same to go mobile. your comparing apples to apples so dont knock my work.

his prices are double bc of the little bit of fame that hes riding off.
good for him, i have alot of respect for his work. hopefully soon ill be able to charge as much as him.

you see all of these detailers on autopia & other sites like L4p. lucky for me i dont have to post up on any of those sites. i choose to stay under the radar. if i joined any of the larger sites like that my writeups would draw the most attention. i dont need the extra attention.

i can compete with the best of them. dont knock my work.

there isnt a detailer you can name in the country that is better than me. 15 years of experience, been there done that thousands of times over.

I think Andrew would give better discounts
i probably would.
i'll bet andrew wouldnt have a problem going up there for a group detailing meet.. ;)
no sir i wouldnt. ive been asked many many times to travel but nothing ever goes through. its ok, i dont need to travel. it just would be someting fun to do lol.

thanks aaron. amazing how everyone sweats autopia detailers. i refuse to join that site. i dont have to. i think i need to hire a hot chick to book my jobs. can i raise my prices then?

no, no....

i'm not trying to say you're not good - you misunderstood.
i have no doubt you do good work in your shop, i'd never question someone's ability based on the amount of space they have to work in. reread the last sentence i wrote. there is no intention to knock your work in any way.

my point was that if you were to travel up to the boston area to do a handful of details for guys, you would be dealing with limited tools & stuck working in unfavorable outside in 25degree weather this time of the year! i wouldn't expect you (or any professional) to have the ability to produce the same quailty of work in a freezing driveway in the middle of the winter vs. in the shop. it's not fair.

believe me, if you were local, i'd be going to you for 1/2 of the price, no question! i don't like to overpay for things unless i feel like i'm getting my moneys worth. i just bought the fx, it's black & def. has some swirling etc. nothing major, but nothing i have the time to deal with in my driveway, esp this time of the year. i'd like to get it done professionally to start off the relationship with my new car & moving forward i'm sure everything will be done by me.

Big A:i would take every tool needed to get the work done, including my 26 gallon shop air compressor. if needed i have a small gas generator but its loud & a pain in the ass to travel with.

i wash cars outside all year round at my shop. i would wash your cars outside then work on them inside your heated, clean, well lighted garage with decent space to work around me. if you or none of your friends dont have a garage then i wont do the work, same goes for spring & summer time. i need to work inside.

i bring the shop to you, all i need would be your garage & a few other things.

when i go mobile i bring 1 bottle of every compound & polish. i take all the waxes i have here as well. i make sure i have more than enough supplies for the work thats booked. everything thats in the shop i take with me. gotta be prepared to use whatever i need to get the jobs done.

i can produce the same quality of work in your garage as whats done daily & nightly in my own garage.

call up the other guy though, your better off. his price is high but its worth it for the work he does. my prices are probably 2/3 of what he charges so hes not that much more than me. i would ask for alot more $ to go mobile & work away from my shop.
im always down to travel but all i ever get for mobile offers is lowballing & wasting my time. the last time i traveled out of state was almost 2 years ago when i went to CT.
i scored $1200 cash for working from 11am till 1am. aston martin, 7series, M3 vert, Ferarri in & out details. it was a fun day for me & johnny. he didnt mind traveling with me. he got $200 for the day/nights worth of work & took the next day off lol.
we were beat after getting back to Queens around 2am =( we had a good time working away from the shop though.
the guy had us working in his 4 car garage with a lift. nobody could hear the compressor with the door closd. it was a little noisy in there but we got usd to it.

i get offers all the time but i havent found one recently that would make it worth it to close the shop & travel for work.
Min,Tx,Cali,Mas,Toronto people were interested. i wanted to go to toronto badly. figured id try to fit in a raptors nba game & have some fun while i was out there lol.

peaceeee

if you do make it up here any time soon, feel free to reach out to me!

unfortunately i don't have a garage that you could use. i have a 1 car garage that is filled with my tools - mostly woodworking tools & general use tools. as well as all yart maint. equip, bikes etc etc. a 2 car garage was on the house purchase wish list, but we bought in '05...sacrifices had to be made.

i talked to rick at unique, i'm hoping to get the new ride there during the week between christmas new years.

ok so you would have to find a friend with a garage that also wants a detail.
i would be down for that.
rick is a really good detailer. you will not be unhappy with his work. ive read a few of his articles before. the guy knows his shit.
