Hi guys,

First and foremost, I apologize if this has been answered in another thread. If so, please point me to it since I haven't been able to find answers to any of the below questions.

1. Today I found out from the dealership that I can update my firmware and they are free from Infiniti’s site, just download to the compact flash and update it that way. I can’t find details about this, nor do I know how I could check what version is on my 2009 FX50 right now. Does anybody know how to update firmware, from where, and how to check if you need to do it? (I heard there are a decent amount of updates that happen with new cds coming out every year, etc). FYI, I have the Map version 07-08 years, so I’m guessing the firmware is probably old too.

2. Is there a way to put your iPhone Phonebook into the Media Center, or use your iPhone’s phonebook through the Media Center? It’s paired and also tried connecting it directly and have not been able to transfer phonebook from iPhone 4 to Media Center. I clicked download phonebook and then I notice on the iPhone the blue Bluetooth icon turns grey and when I give up and cancel it, it reconnects to the Bluetooth. Maybe a firmware update would fix this or some other issue?

3. I can’t stream music from my iPhone 4 to the Media Center, only see the playlist and play the songs when it is actually connected. The dealer said this is only available in 2010 and above models. I was wondering if you guys knew of a module, adapter, an update, an upgrade, anything that would let me do this through Bluetooth so I wouldn’t have to connect my iphone every single time when I get in the car and detach it every time?

4. I heard that there are ways to bi-pass the Navigation while car in motion (maybe even the camera!?). Anybody install one of these or know of one that is recommended by you guys?

5. Does it play DVDs? For some reason I thought it does, tried and didn’t work and just want to verify. The car was parked.

Thanks!
jd

1. Only one map version comes out once a year for our harddrive based navigation systems. I recently had the same map version as you and I had it updated at the dealer. It was a waste of money cause all it did was add a couple of new streets to the map. That's all it did. The latest map update is a waste of money.

2. You can not download your phonebook to the navigation system. You have to manually put it in yourself. There's no other way on the 09's.

3. You don't have bluetooth streaming audio cause it's only available with the 2010 models. There is no update for it cause the navigation system also lacks the hardware to support bluetooth streaming audio not just the software. So it's near impossible.

4. There is a way to bypass the navigation while driving. Here is the DIY someone made on here:

///8068

5. You can watch DVD's on the navigation screen. The reason why it's not working for you is cause first you have to insert the DVD, then push the DISC-AUX button below the map button on the control knob. Keep pushing it till it says DVD is the input.

Remember the manual is your friend :wink (2):

Thanks TK76! I’m going to buy one today!

1. My understanding from the dealership (after speaking with 2 sales guys and the service manager) is that there are map updates and firmware updates (2 different things). The map updates, as you mentioned, I don’t really need to do, but I am curious about the actual firmware updates and if they maybe resolve or update some items….I’m curious if anybody on the forum knows about this….if not then I will ask the dealer again for more details, but not sure how much more they may know like where to get it.
2. The downloading of phonebook from iPhone is only not work on ’09 but works on newer models? I’ve read online that iPhone is actually the issue and don’t work on any years, but maybe I’m wrong…wondering if there is something else or maybe the anycom fibo adapter will make it work!?
3. Getting one today! I assume it’s compatible with the iPhone 4 and the infiniti media center.
4. Wow, that’s great, but definitely not that car handy….I was moreso wondering if there is an adapter or something to buy plug and play that can resolve this issue…I know on some other cars there are such things and was wondering if anybody here has done something like that.
5. Didn’t think about that…doh….thanks! Haha yes the manuals are my friend….I have read one….400+ pages to go on the other one! Haha.

They 2 sales guys confirmed that to update firmware for 09 you would do it through the compact flash port. If you have that, I would assume the same, if not then maybe DVD.

I'm sure once we figure out where to get these firmware updates, that website or whatever should have information on model years, etc.

As I mentioned, if we don't hear from anybody on this forum confirming/denying these things then I will ask the guys where they heard it from to get as much info as possible. I just found out from them it's possible and just figured I would find out more from IS then them anyway :)

I'd like to know the website where you can download the firmware updates please!! lol

Has anyone used the anycom fibo or another similar product with the iPhone 4 and the 09 navigation? I ask before buying because it seems like some users are having trouble with the iOS4 update on the iphone 4 and have it working with this.
since I can only find it online to buy, don't want to go through the hassle if it may not work...

Also, does anybody know if I would connect something like this to the Media Center and the iPhone 4 is connected to the anycom through bluetooth, will the iphone also through bluetooth be connected to the media center for phone calls? I want to make sure if I use it for audio, it will work the same way and take a call lowering the audio of the music, or for example when doing a voice command stop the music, etc if I am stream connected to another device such as the anycom?

Update: So after a week+ being dissappointed about no bluetooth audio streaming, then finding out that 3rd party accessories like the anycom you will not know what is playing or be able to access playlists (only thing is you can use steering controls but what is the point if you can't even see what you are playing), using a thumbdrive also has limitations in a similar way, was considering possible aftermarket stuff, etc....I finally found the best solution and can't believe I just didn't think about doing this from the beginning....

I went on craiglist and just bought a 6th gen 160gb ipod for $100. Now I have all my music (52gb/>10,000 songs on it right now), playlists, etc and just always keep it in the car. It was inexpensive relatively speaking, plus way better than even the streaming because the audio is not only better, but I can access so many of my songs....the bluetooth streams the phone calls perfect with the ipod music together....problem solved....for anyone else having this dilemma, just get a cheap ipod in the center and problem solved. I'm sure you can find one half the size (80gb) for probably under $50 if you want to go even cheaper.

Thanks everyone for your inputs! Back to being 100% satisfied with this car!!!!!:tup:

You can use anycom fipo for streaming audio.

Hey all - just an FYI that I purchased the Fipo bluetooth streaming audio module and am pretty disappointed at the quality of the audio. It sounds pretty bad actually. First, the audio loses a lot of it's stereo quality - so it almost sounds mono. Then the fidelity itself is not that good. I went back and forth between the wired iPhone interface cord and having the FIPO attached and the difference is huge.

I'd return it except I figure I give it to one of my kids - they have one of those iPod compatible stereos that they can use it with.

Hope this helps some prospective buyers. Sorry to semi-hijack.

Wow - great idea!. I've been going back & forth on purchasing a GROM audio module that would allow me to use a USB drive. I just read your post and had a D'oh moment. I think I'll follow your footsteps. Thanks for following up with your update!

Just update-> No firmware update possibilities. I asked the salesman to check for more details and he was talking about the missing title updates through compact flash, not about firmware updates. Sorry to confuse. Thanks.

Well, a couple of things here. I have an '09 and BT audio streaming would be a great deal for me. I like to listen to online radio even though I have a 5th gen classic with close to 30Gb of music on it. The music is very disorganized and to be constantly updating the ipod is now a PITA. Streaming my shoutcast stations would be real nice.

On the other issue with downloading phonebook, I dont know but I dont have any problems downloading my entire phonebook from Droid. Only problem is now when I drive with my sigz (significant other), she's all over my incoming calls. I actually deleted the phone book and now only the incoming number shows up. Not that I was doing anything wrong but let's just say I prefer it that way:wink (2):

Something seemed wrong with the iPod interface here. It was incredibly slow and broken. I'm sure I'm just not doing it right yet. Still, these are the kinds of things that need updates. I'm not impressed with the integration of computer technology in the automobile industry when it comes to in-car entertainment. I'm told it's better aftermarket, and I know GPS certainly is with Garmin, but I don't know about the media center yet.

I saw that a few months ago.....this is ONLY to update the Track names to real names since the musicbox I guess sometimes doesn't convert the name.

I sooooooooooooooo wish I had the 2010 nav and media and iphone bluetooth instead of the 2009 version....so much I would be willing to pay good $$$ for it, but I know it's not doable. :(
