Hi,my car has 10000 miles on it and it is FX35 2010 AWD

I noticed whe i accelerate smothly and it reaches 2-3k RPM it feel like engine making cliking noises or ticking. If i press gas hard they are gone.

Any ideas? Maybe normal? :sluggish:

Steering wheel issue

Hi guys. Did anyone noticed clicking noise coming from the steering wheel colomn at low speeds when turn sharly slowly from one way to another?

When i turn slowly from left to right all thr way or opposite,it sound like airbag inside rubbing something, like loose wire :mad.:

I took it to the dealer, first time they replaced air bag wire and sound was gone.
Then it came back and they call it normal :eek.:

So is it normal ? :alien:

Ok let me answer both of your problems.

The tick noise you are hearing that's coming from the steering column is normal. The sound is not from the air bag wire, so I don't know why the hell the dealer replaced that for no apparent reason. The tick noise is the steering's rack and pinion. This noise is normal on all 2009-2010 FX's. Mine makes the sound too. I've tested 7 other brand new FX's on the dealership's lot and they all make that sound. It's normal trust me.

Second, the ticking/clicking noise you are hearing at 2-3000RPM is not from the engine. It just sounds like it is, but it's not. It's actually coming from the driveshaft. There is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on this issue:

Here it is:

ITB08018

  • IF YOU CONFIRM: A "clicking" noise is coming from the left and/or right rear axle (driveshaft) when accelerating from a stop, NOTE: If any other types of noise are observed or heard under other conditions this bulletin does not apply. Consult your Asist service information for any other issue. ACTION: Remove both left and right driveshafts, clean the flange surface of the outer joints on the driveshafts and apply a specific amount of Molykote M77 grease. Refer to the Service Procedure in this bulletin for details. NOTE: This is the only approved service procedure to repair this incident.

IS TSB applies to 09 only,or 2010 as well?

Yes the TSB does apply to the 2010 models too. Just take it in to the dealer with a print out of the TSB and they will address it.

Trust me I've came across other members on here with the same steering column click noise it's normal. Every FX on the dealer's lot make that rack and pinion tick noise. And it's not a ticking noise, it's just a tick noise. It only makes it one time when turned to the left or one time turned to the right. Don't even bother with it cause nothing you do will stop it. My friend had the rack and pinion changed at the dealer and it still makes that tick sound. It's normal on the 2nd gen FX's.

And it's not from no airbag wire or steering column either cause you can hear the sound outside of the vehicle too. I'd rather not have the dealer tear apart my $60K car just to have one tick sound go away that will never be fixed when all of them have that sound. You see how the dealer changed your airbag wire for no reason? Well that's what they do, they guess what the sound is when in reality they don't know.

Mine can't hear outside.and it does it not only once, but many tick ticks when turn sharply left or righ, very strange. Sometimes no sound at all and it literally comes from airbag part. strange

That's weird. Just to test it have someone stand outside of the vehicle and put the car into drive and turn the steering all the way to the left and to the right and ask them if they hear a click noise. If they do this is the sound I'm talking about bro. If not, then you got a different situation on your hands.

The ticking/clicking noise around 2000-3000 RPM is the notorious axle/driveshaft ticking noise. I told you there is a TSB on this problem.

The steering wheel noise I don't know about. Everything FX I've been in makes one click sound when turning the steering wheel.

If your not happy with the car file a lemon claim.

Does your front seats moves a bit as well with rapid stop and go :tonguey:?

I too notice the movement of the seat slightly with starts/stops. Kinda annoying but no big deal unless it loosens more. I hear a slight vibration noise around 2-3k RPM when gently accellerating. Think it is exhaust vibration (dealer does).

Any thoughts about that?

They ordered clockspring for the steering wheel.

Did they say this is a common failure in this model? I've never seen clock springs fail so early. Was your car throwing an airbag malfunction light?

Re the ticking noise, my car has pretty loud lifter noise. Wonder if you are experiencing the same.
