Hi,

For those that are from the NYC area and have tints on their front side windows, do you guys get harrased by cops for tints often? I am debating whether or not to get tints for the front side windows. Since I am a newbie to the FX35 Im trying to see if our cars are a cop magnet especially when it comes to tint laws. Another thing that prob doesnt help is my fx is blk on blk. Thanks for your inputs.

Tho I spend most of my time in MD,VA.. I drive home(NYC) frequently and I have never had any issues with cops for my tinted windows.. They are as dark as the rear ones.

gots 35% and drive NYC, LI, and the boros... got stopped for other stuff but not because of my tints... however i noticed, they approach me with caution when windows are rolled up so now when i get stopped i roll my windows down asap!

You will be stopped eventually with front tints. There are spots in the city where they pull over people just to check their windows.

Thanks for the reply everyone, I think I will hold off on the tints and see how cops look at me when Im next to them to see if they do a double take or not. I've had tints in all my previous cars and have gotten a total of 3 tickets strictly for tints. The checkpoints I look out for are at the brooklyn side entrance of the BQE heading towards verrazano after getting off the brooklyn bridge. Another spot is they randomnly have checkpoints at the entrance of the manhattan bridge on the manhattan side. I've also read from some members here that around 34-42nd street cops have been just randomnly walking up to cars at red lights to pull them over for tints and they give u a ticket for each window. Just a heads up. Thanks again for everyones input.

Pulled over for tints today in East Harlem. They were courteous and let me go without a ticket. Thanking the car Gods tonight. *whew*

Ive gotten several tint ticket over the years and have a court date today in fact to fight one. Im not gonna go. Im just gonna pay, I dont feel like being a loser today, the weather is too nice.

I have yet to get tints for this very reason. Seems like NYC is doing everything and anything they can to increase revenues. Heard a lot of ppl in bklyn getting violations for cracked sidewalks now as well.

^^^ not the kinda thing I wanna hear considering I live in Oceanside and frequent Long Beach/Loop parkway during summer. Moon roof ain't much of a help coz I got it tinted too.

it's the checkpoints where they'll get you. I personally only get really harrassed by the Bridges and Tunnels from the MTA Police. last week finally got pulled over on Main street in flushing

but you see why i really do

even with my window down you barely see me

How did you get out of it?
I'm not sure...my wife thought the stop was uncalled for so she took a photo just in case it went bad...

Seriously though...He went through the usual spiel about tints and why they are against the law, asked me to roll up the window half way so he can meter it. Before he did that I told him flat out that it was darker than legal and I had it done for two reasons: to shade my daughter (while pointing to the car seat in back) and for my mother whom has photosensitivity. He asked if I had the DMV waiver for the tints and I said no, but he believed me and let me go. All my documents were valid and in order so he didn't even run them through the system.

They have to crack down on orders from above but obviously don't want to. I assume he appreciated the honesty and straightforwardness.
