So I'm getting a bike - Opinions ???

So I'm getting my first motorcycle and have it narrowed down to a few...the bikes appearance is as important to me as performance - seeing as how I drive an FX :wink (2):

I am taking a defensive riding course and have several hundred hours logged on dirt bikes - so please save the beginner rider advice although I appreciate the concern to a new rider...

I figure what better people to ask then guys that have like minded taste in Autos

Also consider I am trying to stay away from sport race bikes - I love them, but feel there are just too many where I live and I like the idea of having something a bit different..

Some are modded the way I would do it..

Which bike do you prefer ???

if there is a bike you like other than these - please mention it

-thx for any and all advice -

Out of those, hands down is the Aprilia. However, you want the best all around sportbike....S1000RR, but it's a liter and um although you said you're new to street riding.

Honestly the Duc is very nice, but the Aprilia stirs the soul! Buell is gone, the Triumph is for hooligans, and the others are run of the mill (for the most part). I owned one of those others (ZX-6R/636) and currently own one of the bigger run of the mill bikes (ZX-10R).

All nice bikes I like the DUCATI TRIUMPH and APRILLA. I have been riding street bikes for 40 years now and have always told freinds who were thinking of getting a street bike to get a dirt bike first and learn the basics like how to crash and burn on dirt first. I learned how to lay a bike down and how to deal with many situations in the dirt that left me scraped up and bruised but not dead. Pavement is not forgiving. Sorry for sounding so negative I know how excited you must be anticipating your first bike but I have had more than one freind who jumped on to a powerfull street bike never having riden one before and wound up seriously injured and a couple that died. I would consider learnig in the dirt first it's way more forgiving than pavement.
Ive had some serious accidents that I walked away from and I attribute this to the skills I learned riding a dirt bike.
Just my opinion.

I have owned a Honda, a Suzuki, and two Ducati bikes (916 and 998). Maintenance is more expensive anytime you are outside the major players: Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki. The oil changes aren't bad and are just DYI but the valve jobs are like $1k I think on the Duc. That wouldn't stop me from getting another one, just make sure you consider that during your decision. Enjoy your new toy and ride safe. Ducati all the way.

agreed partially, ninja 250/650 for ur first bike...but aside from that...

R6 and 848 gets my vote, i had an R6 and got the 848

Haha you kept your 848 indoors and the R6 in a garage?

I miss my R6. I say go with an R6.

Too bad you don't live here. My buddy buys bikes at auctions and sells them. Nothing wrong with the bikes...just repo bikes.
