I have a Cricket like sounding squeak coming from the front suspension. I can hear on on my way up the driveway when i hit the lip of the curb and on ruff roads. My suspension is stock and I have about 60k miles. What do you guys think it could be?

I have the same issue. Had it since I bought the car. I was describing it as bird chirping, but I think cricket noise is a better description. Someone said it could be the bushing, no idea what that is. I should take it to the dealer once to get it checked out. Let me know how yours go.

Bringing back an old thread because I don't like starting new ones to clutter up the scene, but anyway:
I've been hearing some squeaking from my suspension from the front. Sounds like birds chirping / chickens .. haha. It's really annoying. At first it was at slow speeds ie: parking lots, parking garages etc.. Now I'm hearing it while driving at 50mph, even on flat roads. I sprayed wd40 at the top of my struts in the engine bay area and it didn't really do anything. I don't want to bring it to the dealer because they'll just tell me to switch out springs back to stock. Does anyone else have this problem with Gen2 with H&R's ?

edit: I have 47k on it so I was thinking of buying new struts for it anyway since I was told by a few they go around 50k.

1st gen only
That's a good one. Should look into that.

What do you mean by fender bolts? There are 3 nuts at the top of each strut that mount to the engine bay area. I tightened all 6 of those but didn't do anything. I ended up spraying the top of the strut area with pb and it took care of it. Probably nothing permanent but it was a really annoying sound.

The fender bolt is a know problem for the first Gen. It a bolt that goes thru the firewall behind the front wheel well liner. When it comes lose, it give out this noise when go slow over bump especially on a driveway.

That's it :top: Zeebra

Probably best to get all up in the bay to make sure there are no chickens, random birds or crickets first before you start buying parts.

The 2nd gen doesn't use struts. It uses a double wishbone with a shock absorber. No McPherson struts.

Mine is quiet too at 45K no noises. Might be a stabilizer bar issue I remember Wayne mentioning the dealer heard squeaky noises coming from his and changed the stabilizer bar. That's probably what your hearing

This has me questioning if dropping a car has any long term effects on suspension wear. Hmmm....

of course it does.

I've talked to two mechanics and they told me not to mess with it. It's significant more strain on the car when lowering it, especially on roads in Michigan...not sure by your area.

front sway bar links are a very common squeaking noise in first gens too and there cheap enough that that would be the first thing I'd try if you can't identify where it's comming from...
