Air Filter removal/replacing

Hi,

I just got back from the auto shop (replaced mobil 1 EP + K&N oil filter).

I was wondering if one of you could show me how to remove and replace air filters? I noticed the 4 clips + the one screw on the right.. but still had a hard time removing....

Thanks,
Keith Ahn

It is a bit tough. but the easiest way would probably be to loosen the intake tube near the throttle body and wiggle it back a bit to increase the space at the airbox to remove the filter.

Hey guys,

The previous owner said he had installed K&N air filter in the past... I took two pictures today through power duct hole..

I have two questions for you guys.
1- Is this a K&N air filter? Not sure if you guys can tell by the pics below.
2- Do you guys think it needs cleaning? or is it still pretty good?

If you have had the filter at one point you know what it looks like when its dirty and like i said before you can see a hint of red in his dirty K&N

Its red bc of the oil that is applied to it thats used to catch small debris from slipping through the filter and up into the throttle body

FXAWD sorry to jack up your thread but since we are talking about filters here I have a question. Does anyone knw of any dry filters that might fit the stillen intake? Cause I try a couple but the stillen filter is huge and the diameter is wide too.

you can try the amsoil Eaau6065. Page 2. 3rd. picture form this link

I have the Eaau6075 I think it's about 2 inches longer than the stillen filter. However I have to modify/cut the lower bottom of the stillen box to make it fit perfectly. Eaau6065 is shorter than the Eaau6075 I think it will be fine without any cutting of the lower bottom of the stillen box.

Thank you much man! I'll give them a try!

Hey guys,

I'm going to buy the cleaning kit for my dirty K&N air filter today...

I was wondering how long it'll take from popping my hood to inserting the cleaned air filter? I was told that I had to wait 24 hrs for the filter to dry out.... I hope I don't have to wait that long. I need to go to work everyday and I don't have 24 hrs to wait around..

thannks

no you dont need to wait 25 hours, just do it before you get a meal or something about 2 hours will do it, if its sunny out leave it out or put it under a fan....I did mine it took less than 30 min total, and i let it dry while i cleaned out some of my garage....it's a fairly easy DIY, just dont over oil it.

nice username by the way, you should change it to something more personal lol it's not like there are no other fx35 awd owners....just a thought.

wow, I just finished my air filter cleaning.... What a big accomplishment for me.. haha.. it's all cuz of you guys.. .without this forum, I wouldve prob spent 50 bux at a local body shop... Thanks guys!

I used a spray K&N oil for the oiling.. and I have a feeling I did a little too much.. I did it twice... is that ok? THe reason I did it twice is b/c after the first try, I didn't see a lot of red color on the clean side.. so I decided to do it again.....

you should be fine. just have to be careful not to dirty the MAF sensor. You should clean that during air filter cleaning
the MAF write up is here :
