Rattling noise and replacing y-pipe

A couple of weeks ago, my 04 FX started to make a rattling noise underneath. It sounds like vibrating think plastic cover, but it turns out that there is a crack on a y-pipe (actually dealershop told me like that). Replacement cost is $900. Is it reasonable price? Or, is there any posibility this noise is caused by other reasons? It starts making noise at around 2500-3000 RPM.

Thanks in advance!

oh wow.. i used to have this problem too.. it got to the point that it happenned everytime i turn on my fx and/or every time i used to rev it up.. now it only barely hapenned.. i guess that i know now what is wrong with my FX.. i will look into getting a Y pipe..

thanks for the thread..!

So labor fee should be around $300-$400. hmm.... stealershop!!!

Take it to ANY muffler shop. They can probably throw it on for $50. Or check and see if they can weld the hole back up. As long as its not the flex pipe you should be able to weld it back up

This sounds similar to my issue. But mine was with a new y-pipe, and it was from the resonator hitting a heat shield. I did the get a much louder noise around 2700-3000 RPM though. Maybe that is where it resonates the most. So it might be some other issue. Have you checked for problems such as loose bolts, or exhaust pipes touching other parts on the underside?

can not .... he is AWD .. he needs the Kamxxxx (spelling lol)
Why wouldn't a stock y-pipe work? Do the AWD's really have a different y-pipe than the RWD's? If so, just get one from a G35X. Aftermarket would have to be a Kakumei though, or a stock HR y-pipe might work.

Im shocked Stu !

I'm only talking FX here. And that Y-pipe looks exactly the same as mine.

So the OEM y-pipe on a RWD FX and an AWD FX are different?

So I'm waiting to see if my question was just answered incorrectly. And I've confirmed the HR y-pipe will work since it's the same as our y-pipe. Nissan is sneaky like that.

The overall length may be the same but the neck is shorter and wider due to the transfer case. I can't really tell the difference between the HR y-pipe and your oem y-pipe Stu from those pictures. But the oem Y looks slightly narrower.

Judging by these pictures, FX RWD Y = FX AWD Y = Z HR motor Y. HR is iffy though.
So does anyone still think the AWD and RWD have different Y's, and can you prove it visually?
